e90 head bolts broken
Took my 2006 325 sedan to dealership cause another ignition coil went bad. That's only 600 tp replace....but the service rep advised that my engine has a couple of broken head bolts...3500 to replace...anyone else have this happen. I asked the serv mgr to contact bmwna to see about a goodwill repair as the car only has 60k...he has contacted them...I will let u know the verdict.
Has anyone had this issues or issues with ignition coils going bad? |

You are not talking about head bolts.

If i had to guess its prob the valve cover bolts...while your in there you might as well cover all the bases if u have the $. Id replace all valve cover bolts and a new gasket, New coil packs (cause they will go out soon and there super easy to swap out, while your there might as well do plugs, and i just had to change out the oil filter housing gasket on my car so do that too along with a new top coolant hose since mine had signs of dry rotting. and then do an oil change and youll be brand new. This car is actually very easy to work on and parts arnt as expensive as you might think.

Not uncommon, I had mine replaced too (Head bolt NOT valve cover bolt). http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...d+bolts&page=2

Kudos to BMW for building an engine which will even function with broken headbolts.

First of all I just had a bad ignition coil on cylinder 3 and it was $250. The part is like $70 online... $600 is a rip off!!

Good news. Sounds like you handled yourself professionally and BMWNA stepped up to the plate to resolve this known issue.

How do you know when a coil pack is going bad - do you feel a misfire under light throttle cruising conditions? In previous (non-BMW) cars, the hardest situation for a weak or struggling coil to fire was a lean light-throttle condition.

The engine runs like a tractor with horrible vibrations. Lucky for you guys each cylinder has a dedicated coil pack. Some manufacturers run 1 pack for 2 cylinders.

It is not the quality of the bolt, but there are different metals touching each other.
