But seeing as you're having continuous problems with your car, may I suggest that a great deal of my thinking about a particular marque is how any problems are fixed by the dealer. Yes, I realise that is possibly a sore point at the moment but what I'm trying to say is when (fingers crossed) the problems with your car are fixed see how you feel about your car then.

In other words, try not to let this bad experience affect how you see the brand as a whole. Although if it isn't sorted satisfactorily then in all honesty for me it could well stop me ever buying that marque again.

We're all different and think differently though.
yeps agree....

Just go crazy at them Kevin, make a scene, even try a different dealership to diagnose the issue as some have muppets working for them.

At the end of the day, for that price range the 335i covers every base better than anything else so your first choice should be to try to get yours sorted.

I was going to say stick with the 335i. If not the one you currently have, get shot, and get a different one. Perfick.

personally I would kick some serious ass at Bmw and insist that they sort your car or give you a replacement FULL STOP .

Interesting thread! (ignoring all the bits about "rice" and "my bad" whatever they mean of course )

Some good suggestions already, here are some alternatives...

Alfa 159 JTDM
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1272181.htm
I know it has too many doors but to me it still looks great

Nissan Skyline R34
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1270403.htm

Audi S3
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1355791.htm
Great all rounder and ticks most the boxes?

Focus ST
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1343488.htm
Bit ugly, but supposedly great?

Vauxhall Monaro VXR
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1210101.htm
Or if you could cope with the extra doors (VXR8)

Saab 9-3 Turbo
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1223133.htm
Ok it's a soft top, not sure they do a Coupe?

Wildcards ...
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1353210.htm
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1306515.htm
Not really daily drivers though!

I think you'll find 'bollocks' at nearly every brand if your unlucky. Heard horror stories from every one, although the more you spend the better you get treated is the motto in general it seems.

Having owned 3 e46 bmws i know how you feel. To me the newer bms just arent as well built. Ive had so many fiddly problems with my e90 that i never had with any of the e46's despite 4 times the mileage.
Eg Door handles sticking open, blocked water thingy for the windscreen washers, stupid design for handbrake which somtimes takes 3 clicks other times 7 and more rattles after 30k than i had after 100k in the e46.

Having said that i cant think of anything that will hit all the basis like your 335i will, it makes a great noise (If a little quiet) and you could either thrash the life out of it or crusie for 10 hours without it annoying you. So i say either kick up a stink or change for another one!

Ain't got no. Build quality qualms with me E92. Maybe E90 ain't so good. s3 is not a 3 series rival. It's a 1 series rival.

What's the budget for ongoing costs like?? The Maserati 4200 is an awesome machine for 'drama' but not necessarily the sharpest tool in the box but does cost a fortune to run...

What about a Scooby??
I had an rx8-pz 231bhp, you do have to put your foot down to get them going, but r a lot of fun but they do only 18mpg. to be honest i do miss mine
