Cloth much nicer.
Actually lasts a lot longer as well, because most owners don't know how to look after leather.

Leather is expected, so always tend to buy a car with it.

complete opposite for me!
i think leather looks clean and neat and very easy to clean! a more elegant look to the interior over cloth as it is a BMW at the end of the day...

I had Alcantara in my old E46 330i Sport.. Really liked it but it was soo hard to sell.

So made sure my 335d had leather. Which I like too. Specially when it's clean and matte.

I like alcantara but has to be leather for resale. For some reason a lot of people are fixated with leather and car is considered poverty spec without it!

Leather, without a shadow of a doubt. Easier to keep clean - won't immediately soak up a spill and looks better. Fact (well IMO!)

Leather is the only way to go. More expensive and luxurious :-)

Nappa leather is lovely; Dakota leather isn't.

Agree, but dakota with little care still looks new after 4yrs / 60k whereas nappa is worn and full of nasty crease lines unless it's been maintained by a leather fanatic!

Agreed.

I was not saying I prefer the look of cloth, I was just saying it is nice to sit on.
Plus, when a car gets a little older the cloth interior tend to look better, all decent cloth can pretty much clean up like new.

Problem with the cloth on BMWs is it looks crap!

This is the Audi A3...

Looks pretty decent imho.

Leather.

Wouldn't even think about buying a premium car like a 3 series without leather.

I have only had cloth in 2 BMWs, a 1989 325i E30 and Fiona's e91 M-Sport, loved that that interior.

leather all the way. BMW cloth never looks great, and ruins the executive looks of the inside of the car. Might as well buy a mondeo if you like cloth seats

on a serious note, i find with long distance driving that my back gets hot and perhaps a tad sweaty with cloth seats. I don't have this problem with leather, which seems to breathe better and feels more natural.

I have dakota lemon leather, and on a 7 year old car, with 65k miles on it, it still looks good as new:

It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but it has to be leather for me.

I'll let you know if I work out a reason beyond being snobby.

Leather only, but has to be black or dark shades none of that horrible cream stuff which totally ruins the interior.

See, I would much prefer a lighter interior.
Really not keen on black leather.

Leather - it's kiddie spew proof. That's good enough reason for me over cloth.
