After reading on this and other forums for months
I think I decided what I'd like to do to start improving my E93 audio (no L7), and I would like some suggestions:

1) New amp: I would like to go with a 50/60W per channel amp in the $3/400 range. I know it has to be stable at 2ohms for the stock subs.
-Which brand?
-Do I need 4 channels or 6 channels to power all 10 drivers?
-Is the stock amp on the E93 behind the head unit in the center console?
-Would the new amp replace or tap off the stock amp?

2) Front tweeters replacement: since I want to keep the mid drivers for now, do I need to replace the crossovers as well?

amp is located in the trunk on the left side underneath the storage compartment. in my setup the amp was tapped at the output and sent to a high level convertor and then to a TruTechnology line driver. i then feed a TruTechnology 4 channel amp and drive aftermarket Dyanaudio components.

I am afraid a setup like yours is too expensive for my taste... how does it sound?
Can you tell me more about the Dynaudio? Did you install yourself? I thought the midrange was too deep for the convertible. Did you have to do a lot of tweaking?

1) For that budget, I would go with the JL Audio G6600amp: 6-channel, accepts balanced input, 2 ohms stable, individual crossovers, 110W RMS x 6 at 2 ohms output.

Nice platform for an eventual speakers upgrade. It is some $350 at eBay.

2) Swap the OEM amp first, tune it and then decide if you need a tweeter upgrade.

it was quite expensive. the sound is nothing short of astonishing. The mids are mounted through the top of the door panel. Dynaudio makes some of the finest studio/home/car audio loudspeakers. Dyn's aren't cheap. I wasn't making any real suggestion, just giving you an idea of what I did with my car. I also have a 12" Dynaudio sub mounted behind the back seat.

I thought the JL amp would be a good fit, too. I read quite a few people have used it. Is swapping the OEM amp relatively easy? Plug-and-play with the correct connectors? No need to rewire to the speakers?
Also, I seem to remember a post saying that the 2 subs under the seats are powered by a single channel from the OEM amp. The JL would have 2 channels available for the subs, correct?

Not quite plug and play but fairly easy to connect to the OEM amp connector in the trunk as long as you know the wiring assignments. You can keep the OEM wiring to the speakers.

Also, I seem to remember a post saying that the 2 subs under the seats are powered by a single channel from the OEM amp. The JL would have 2 channels available for the subs, correct?

The OEM woofers are wired in stereo (2-ch) at the OEM amp (6-ch). Thus the G6600 with 6-ch...

Do you have pictures and/or details of any possible modifications to make MW152's with 63 mm top mounting depth fit the front door panels??? Thanks.

i don't see how anyone could get these to fit behind the door. even for top mounting i had to grind down the back of the basket.

Where is the best spot to mount the amp on the convertible? It's quite big...
I thought on the back seat in the trunk could be a good option.
