Fuel tank pump and sensor?

Quick question ababout where these parts are installed?

Repair kit, fuel pump/fuel level sensor - p/n 16147163298
Repair kit, fuel filter/press. regulator - p/n 16117163295

From the diagram it seems the above two circular parts are installed into the two circular holes shown in the diagram for the plastic fuel tank - p/n 16117163293 ?

What is the exact purpose of the pump?

On the 335i there is the regular (to other E90s with N52s) low-pressure fuel pump/filter unit that is located in the fuel tank. The circular parts (no. 5 in the diagram) are just new caps that hold the fuel pump/filter unit and the pressure regulator unit in place in the fuel tank. On the 3-series, the fuel tank is located under the rear seat and can be accessed through the floor by removing the rear seat bottom cushion and removing the access covers built into the floor. The design is this way so you don't have to drop the tank to repair the fuel pump.

Efthreeoh, thanks for the explanation. Do you know what exactly the low pressure fuel pump does? Does it simply help pump fuel to the high pressure fuel pump up near the engine?

Yes. It supplies fuel to the HPFP.

It generally acts as the first line of defense against tank deposits and takes the strain off the HPFP
