My 335d...

I have owned her for one year yesterday! She has been in the shop (BMW) 9 times in that year.

1: SES light, replaced 3 injectors 45,905 miles
2: SES light, full service reset light 48,127 miles
3: Exhaust fumes in cabin, replaced exhaust back pressure sensor 52,870 miles
4: SES light, replaced all 6 injectors, SCR metering valve and mass air sensor 63,308
5: SES light, replaced EGR valve 63,961
6: SES light, replaced 6 glow plugs and charge air temp sensor 65,577
7: SES light, replaced mass air sensor (2nd time) 66,352
8: SES light, replaced DPF filter (no warrantee good will by BMW) 67,276
9: SES light, replacing 1 injector (The 10th to be replaced) and CO2 sensor 67,900

I was advised today that BMW has no idea what to do to fix my car and that BMWNA is simply "throwing remedy's" at it hoping one will work...

God I need a miracle or a solution!!!

Ask for a new short engine and DDE.

Did you have an SES light come on for the exhaust fumes in cabin? I've had my car at the dealer since January for the injector issues. I received it back a couple of weeks ago and there was a stong exhaust fume smell in the cabin of the car. the SES light came back on but it was for a bad injector again. They're changing out the DDE this time (They have already done the cleaning of the manifold and replaced all the injectors). They are trying to tell me the smell could be residual from taking the engine apart but I call BS on that. They've installed the DDE but keeping it to check for any leakages from any of the hoses for exhaust fumes.

smell could be from the EGR flex connector since they surely had the intake and EGR valve on and off several times.

reading last couple of post scares me as my car is in the shop since December of last year and seams as all very similar to what I have experienced. I also feel like they don't have a clue what to fix and that they are just throwing parts thinking the next one will fix it. I know that last one they replace was DDE module but haven't hear back from them yet

How many miles (km) do you have on your 2009 335d?
Do you have the extended warranty?

65k km (around 40k miles) and yes, I do have extended warranty, that is where my luck strikes I guess Got a phone call last evening and sounds like they finally completed all fixes and I can pick up the car on friday. 4 months of fixing and waiting for parts, don't they build cars faster than that???

It's great that you have the extended warranty. I had about $14,000 worth of work done and since I have the extended warranty (purchased a CPO), all I had to pay was a $50 co-pay.

With mine, they had to replace all 6 fuel injectors (because they were leaking), they also replaced the cylinder head and all the in-take and out-take valves.

I checked with the dealership if the car history showed if the DDE was ever replaced, but they said no. I currently have 76k miles and I hope they replace my DDE before the warranty runs out in 24k miles.

Every case is different...but for my vehicle I was getting reoccurring 'Zero Quantity Adaption' codes every ~70 miles or so even after 6 new injectors were installed. I pressed the dealer for a new DDE while I still had 10 days left on my factory 50k mile warranty. They opened a PUMA case and then obliged. It has been 4 months and 5k miles and I have had zero unexpected faults with the new DDE.

I have CPO as well but I don't think they will even charge me the $50 since it was so so long since I have seen my car, on Friday I will know more and get the list of items they have done. I think I could have my car back sooner if PUMA would allow dealer to put new DDE couple of months ago and not just replace part by part. Mechanic already suspected DDE to be faulty but PUMA refused to go that route. I guess spending endless hours in labor is cheaper for them than 2000 or so unit . What scares me and what I said to the dealer is if I would not have CPO how would they justify the procedure to get the car fixed. I strongly believe that many things were done unnecessary but since I don't pay for it I am letting it go. Scary part is that they are so proud to have so many sensors monitoring the operation of the engine and yet they don't really help them much when it comes to fixing things.

They definitely should not charge you the $50 co-pay. Them having the car for so long to fix due to ordering parts is ridiculous.

I am still going to try to have my dealership replace the DDE before my warranty runs out.

I hope all goes well when you pickup your car.

Good luck.

The fix

head cleaned at 84, 670 miles
New short engine at 84,690 miles.
New DDE at 85,143 miles. About to hit 105,000 miles. If you have the extended warranty, be demanding. To the manager, to the SA, to the technicians, to the foreman, to BMWNA.

thx CT_335D, will know in few hours what is going on, for sure I will not allow them to charge me or I will not pick up the car and refuse, don't mind driving the loaner and considering that I am only every second weekend in the city, they are concerned about the mileage
as rogerdiaz says, demand for the DDE change, eventually they do break down, in my case I had to wait till they run out of the options and realized they are thousands into the labour hours but you never know, might work in your fav. One thing that I hated the most is every time something new showed up they pretend like it is the first time, finally I took printouts from this forum and showed to them with a question, how is it possible that PUMA says it is the first time when there was so many cases open by PUMA?? After that they never played the same game, no more "this is new to us" BS

I will definitely push them to replace the DDE. I even started an excel sheet that shows all the work that was done to my car as well as the part numbers. This was useful when I brought the car to the dealership when the SES light turned on about few months ago. They told me that the mass air flow sensor failed and they need to order a new one from Germany. After they replaced it and I went to pick up my car, they wanted me to pay the $50 CPO co-pay. I then pulled out my excel sheet to see if that part number was ever replaced and it turned out it was about 1 year ago. I told them that this part was previously replaced and had them check their records. They verified that it was previously replaced and apologized. They waived the $50 CPO deductible. So it's good to keep track of everything.

I am amazed how organized you are, lesson for me, I have to start doing it, so far I just keep e-mails but it takes some time to find out what was done when. What surprises me is how they play this game, after all their computer should tell them not to charge> well anything for a back right Keep it going, I am starting recording my things from now on, worth it, especially when they play so innocent and yet they know they are not

I did the exact same thing, I have a spreadsheet with everything done on the car. I have it with me when I go to the dealer. On my last set of 6 injectors, I did not pay the $50 co-pay because all injectors were replaced less than a year ago.

well so hmm, not sure what to say now but even tho I was promised to get my car back this weekend ..... ok that did not happen, got the phone call from the senior mechanic telling me all is good but he will call me on saturday to arrange the pick up, hmmm, saturday is gone and not a single call. Now two more weeks as I am going back to my work place, now seriously thinking if I should keep the car or get my money out as soon as I can and go back to Acura, who the hell thinks that fixing a car for over 4 months is ok and that the customer will be happy about it??? oh boy, what to do what to do???

335D Fuel Injector problems

Guys -

Saw the posts about 335D fuel injector problems. I have 2011 335D purchased CPO. It has 58k miles on it. I have had it 2 years. It has had injectors replaced 4 times. Cylinder #2 twice. Now the Mass Air was replaced. Codes match those of others in the forum. Symptoms also match. SES light shows up every 3 months or less.

Question... for those of you who have had the DDE replace how many miles and years have you gone since replacement? Did DDE replacement fix the problem? Any problems since DDE replacement? Do you still own the car?

Wondering if this car can be fixed to really make the problem go away or if I need an exit strategy?

30k miles after DDE replacement no problems related to fuel injector code(s).
