SF bayarea Tint % advice
Folks, I wanna get my AW E90 tinted all around soon, but undecided on what tint % and brand to go with. I spent most of my time travelling between San Jose, Fremont, and SF, and I don't want to get pull over for having it too dark all around. Is 50% a good bet? Thx in advance.

I did 20 on the back window, 35 on the rear sides, and 50 on the front sides. Not the normal setup, but I wanted something that gradually got lighter from the back to the front.
If I had to do it again, though, I would've done 35 on the back and rear sides, and 50 on the fronts. |

i like 35%.
imho, 50% is too subtle, almost not noticeable at times.

there are plenty of tint shops that have been referred for norcal e90ers... i suppose the only thing you have to be concerned about is the type of film they carry and pricing. you will most likely want ceramic or not full-metal tint too.
in terms of darkness... 50% is barely noticable... if your going for heat rejection you should be fine. if you want something more cosmetic, anything over 30% all around should be fine (some people prefer darker tints on the rear windows and rear windshield). also keep in mind that assuming your not tinting your front windshield (illegal for CA anyways), the front windshield is the larger window therefore it allows the most light into the rear... which means standing from the direct rear of the car, it will seem as if the rear tint % is less (which its not).

35% is good but then again it depends on the brand because i was next to pacman and i think it was tibbz and we all have either 30% or 35% but mine seemed the lightest.

50% may be subtle, but toning it down a bit isn't necessarily a bad thing. IMO unless you live in FL or NV, or any other horrendously hot area there really is no need to go 20, or even 35%. 50% will keep your car cool enough. Considering we all drive top notch vehicles...why is everyone trying to hide behind their window tint? I figure if you're gonna throw down 50-60k on a car, you would probably like to be seen in it. 50% all around would be my vote, Godspeed

50% is almost invisible. That is it's a very very light tint and it will sometimes look like it's not even tinted at all. If you want to avoid hassle with the cops you should go 35% or 50% in the front and whatever % you want in the back. |

I guess I'm leaning towards the 35% all around, I'll just take my chances.

I have 30% all around and shragon has 35% all around... i haven't gotten any fix it tickets from that... and i doubt shragon has been ticketed either. you dont have to worry. 30% is somewhat in the middle of what is considered dark and light.

50%????
what's the point! I, after researching, found out I have 32% on side windows 6% limo on rear side, and rear I've always thought it was all the same?? I cannot tell any difference. I don't care about laws. I care about it being 120 degrees in the desert! Does metallic tint interfere with radar detectors?? My arctic metallic 335 is a week away. Please give advice Do I have to spend 300 plus for ceramic? K |

I will NOT put any tint on my fronts...legal issues are one of the hassles I don't think are worth my time. Besides, why give the officer ONE more thing he can tag you for? I have already resigned myself to the fact I AM going to get a speeding ticket in my 335 lol. I am going with 30 on the back and sides...with the sun shade in place the backs should be nearly impossible to see through I have seen a couple of AW 335 with tints and think it makes the overall look of the car slick AND it helps keep it all cool inside. |

you don't need to spend 300, you can get great ceramic tint for around $100 less from machii.net and they'll stand behind their work.
i wouldn't recommend metallic tint, but if u don't have CA i guess it's a personal preference.
