Ouch, bloody mess...
I popped out recently in my E90 whilst wearing a suit and before getting out took something from the small glove compartment to the right of the steering wheel.
Getting back in to the car I caught my leg on the compartment door that I'd left open. It was rather more uncomfortable than I expected so I pulled up my trouser leg to reveal a nice 3 inch gash that was making a bit of a mess of my suit. Bloody car... |

Sorry OP but your pain was my gain.
Had never noticed that little glove-box thing before, cannot put my glasses case in there though so my gain was short lived in the end. |

perhaps I don't sit as close the steering, but I have never hit it that hard, the few times I have left it open!
I don't think the US cars have it as they have more padding and protection for knees in that area. |

It is a very usefull compartment for keeping small items which the passengers cannot get at. It is indispensible in fact! Gob stoppers and the like would not last five minutes!
