Are they off all the time or only after driving for a while?

How hot is your outdoor temperature?

probably the temperature that caused them to shut off. A couple weeks ago, it was pretty warm here in socal and my "daytime running lights" warnings came on simultaneously.

Contacted Marc and he confirmed this is a built in feature, to prevent them from overheating. Happens around ~100 degrees celsius, I believe.

Edit: just noticed you're from Toronto, doesn't get "too" warm up there, does it? lol

Thanks for your responds. They are all out all the time. The outdoor tempreture was very hot in Toronto when they went out. Any idea? Before they both went out, the one on the driver side was flickering. Then all of a sudden, both of them went out. On the very next day, when I started the car, they both went on but after 30 secs, both went out. Not sure why they are doing that? Please help.

Thanks for your feedbacks. As I have mentioend above, the tempreture in Toronto was very hot went they went out. So, have your DRL came back on when the tempreture came back down on your side? Thanks in advance

Yep, they automatically turned off for a bit once the temperatures subsided and came back on. If this isn't the case for you, I suggest contacting Marc.

G'luck.

I had a similar problem a little over a year ago. I was one of the first people to order the 1st gen LUX H8 which had all components sitting inside the light assembly. I noticed the first summer in Boston that on hot days the right one would go out and I'd get a daytime running lamp error on the dash. After a little while, it would go out randomly, even on cool nights and sometimes it wouldn't light at all when the welcome lights came on.

I sent them back and was sent what I think is a newer version where the black relays (I think that's what they are) are meant to be outside the light assembly which prevents their overheating. I've been error free for a year now. Do you have the ones where all components sit inside the little compartment?

Yes, I do. I think mine are the 1st generation LUX H8. They are all out permenatly. I was thinking if I should get replacement or is it just the way that the light functions where there's a way of resetting the overheating mechanism. I have no idea. I am running without the DRL.

here is the problem with the first gen. Yes they can over heat...but sometimes the bulb is still ok......the secret is sometimes its the car's dme (or whatever controls lighting) shutting the AE's off due to overheating. if you get a bulb warning, hurry and turn off your DRL via idrive to prevent the dme from shutting the socket off for safety ( or you will have to go to dealer to reactivate the bulb socket) and remove the AE bulb and replace with regular bulb to reset the dme.

Thank you for your responds. I have tried puting the stock bulbs back on and they light up without any problem. Does it means that the socket has not been shutted off? Does it means that the LED has been damaged or blew? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Post picture or detail of the bulb/heat sink so we can know which version of LUX you have.

Guys, I have notice that there are still light come from the LUX. But the light are extremely dark. Not sure if it is caused by the ballaster or the dimmer that howiedds were referring to? Any idea?

I remember specifically asking if the shutoff due to the heat was harmful for the LUX H8s and Marc said it wasn't. Is this now incorrect?
