I don't think it's anybodies business how much he has spent.

The M3 is the pinnacle of the 3 series range. It is superior in terms of performance, handling and looks. Comparing a diesel to one is apples and oranges. If it is only straight line speed you are after then yes, the 335d is fast; as is Focus ST or a Astra VXR but they aren't anything comparable to an M3.

If fuel consumption and running costs concern you then an E92 M3 or even a F82 M4 shouldn't be on your list. The M4 may be more efficient but I doubt you will get the figures they claim.

Based on the 335i I'd believe them within reason. It's not much different to a JB4 tuned 335. Lot's of motorway miles and I'd say the mpg is not too bad.

I think most people who do a performance upgrade consider the impact on economy. There's not many people who would be happy bringing a car down to say 5mpgs for maybe 600HP. No matter who you are running costs are always a consideration.

I was just putting it in comparison to owning a diesel!

secondly, nobody commented on me saying 335d feels faster in a mid range than M3, so I am glad, you have agreed on it, but could you also confirm and say your thoughts about 335d being a better daily and mainly city driver than M3? that's why i am sticking with it...and if I make some money, I ll buy M4 with auto and sunroof as a must mainly due to the better fuel economy than the e92....
Hey Martin, what I have spent on my car is not for the public domain, especially in case the wife see's it!

335d and m3 are completely different cars. You can't compare them and if you attempt it then then you don't really want an m3. As Sam said you don't buy an m3 to worry about mpg, costs etc. you buy because you want an m3 with a v8 and accept that it will be expensive!

Would love an m4, and good luck achieving you goal for one.

Don't mean this in the wrong way, but don't even know what mpg my m3 does, and don't car either. As I said if your worrying about mpg then don't buy an m3!

man if you wouldnt put all those money in those uneccessary upgrades such as recaro, you could buy a supercharger kit for 4.500 pounds such as this one out of ebay and still discounted:

A 211hp gain over stock, which is more than a Mercedes SLS Black Series
