Hello guys i wanted to know what kind of intake i should get for my 06 325i im trying to figure between the injen and AFE. Also i want to know what you fellow 06 325i owners are running. Big thanks

I would go for the AFE. I installed it on my 328i and it is pretty good. it made the exhaust deeper and throatier which i like. lol but also i would recommend doing a muffler and resonator delete it sounds so good with the afe intake.

I got the AFE CAI and the BMW performance exhaust. I love the setup and the car is definetly quicker. The CAI alone won't give you much of a perfromance boost, you won't feel much of a difference until you go over 50mph. For a true perfomance boost you will still need an exhaust.

Slightly different engine but we are running the aFe DCI intake on our 335 and 135 and have been happy with the result. aFe makes a solid system for the non-turbo'd cars as well and I recommend going with their setup. Had nothing but positive feedback about the power output and quality.

Any postive gains on the AFE system and how does it stack up against the injen in term of the design and filter.

OEM. It is better in every way. The power is just is good, filtering and time to clog is far better, it's cheaper, and the dealer can't blame any engine warranty claims on it. The ONLY possible benefits will be some intake whoosh, if you like that, and having it look different when you pop the hood.

It depends largely on your software, downpipe and exhaust setup but you can expect about 10-15HP realistically from the aFe intake. I liken the difference to the car with and without the AC on. I found the car more responsive throughout the range.

On AFE intake can you leave the filter exposed without putting on that metal top plate?

You can but I recommend installing the metal top plate as part of the heatshield.

Ive got an Injen. I think its excellent. Great sound, and has some more response. you have to realize, your not going to get 10 more HP from just an intake without doing exhaust or performance chip, that's for sure......don't let them tell you that.

You are defeating the purpose of a COLD air intake if you do that. The top plate works as a heat shield. Without it you will be sucking in hot air, which is the exact opposite of what your trying to do.

Yes very true.. well hot air in the motor makes it sounds cooler but that defeats the purpose also... the heat shield blocks out the hot air from the engine.. But I dont understand something.. unless i have not look at that engine bay hard enough, where the intake box is located, would it not be exposed to constant heat?

No the metal plate that the cone connects to and the top cover act as the heat shield. They prevent heat from going into the cone.

Here is a test I ran.
Drove the car around town at normal speeds (nothing over 45mph) with the top cover off. When I touched the filter it was very warm to the touch. That evening I put the top cover back on. I ran the test again the next day in same type of conditions. I inspected the CAI again and this time it wasn't even warm. It felt cooler then the ambient temperature outside.

AFE is awesome and I would definitely order from them again. I have no experience with Injen, but I see "Injen" stickers all the time on the back of beaten up Honda's. Although that doesn't mean the product isn't quality, it's not something I want under my hood.
