maybe he is pointing to the fact he has navigation and leather?...
Though it is true that 328s are the base 3 series, and sedans are much cheaper than coupes price wise, maybe that's what he meant |

In the model line up a 328 is the base 328 model.
A car with the option you have is not a base car. he is driving a FORD, "Found On Road Dead", "Fix On Repair Daily"...... But really, a Lincoln and he's ragging on a BMW??? Please.... Tell him to go buy a car that was engineered to be driven and not a lounge chair on wheels... |

Take your pick: http://www.offleaseonly.com/used-lincoln-mks.htm all the way from $14.9k for an 09' to $22.9k for a 11'. Where I got my m-sport 335 there was a 09' with more miles than mine -- think that was around 38k miles that was listed for $26.x and no nav just sport and prem. |

Loaded '08 335s have trouble leaving the lots around here at anything more than $22k, so I'd imagine a half-optioned '08 328 would fetch a couple $k less. Regardless, the point was that you can't in fact get two Ecoboost MKSes for the price of the OP's car. In fact, the MKS is going to be worth more. Even if it is a just a Taurus with some fancy-schmancy trim. |

Having a 328 doesn't make it a base model. Your car is pretty far from base especially with it being equipped with the sport package.

MKS can be:
3.7L NA FWD 3.7L NA AWD 3.5L Ecoboost AWD Different trim levels and priced very differently from the factory. Just like there are different flavors of the 3er, there are different flavors of the MKS.... So you have to take into account which trim level the guy has, because picking the wrong trim level is like confusing a 328 for 335, etc... Or were you "wat"ing something else? EDIT: I should also add my comment about the 335 leaving the lots at $22k fully loaded around here might need a bit of clarification. I'm specifically talking about a 2008 E90 with everything except Comfort Access, 74k miles (been watching a specific one to see what it sells for). So I should have probably said "high mileage" 335, but even if mileage was lower, they still don't go for much around here. The coupes seem to do better. I think that 'base model' is like 'sports car' - the definition rests with the person using the phrase.
Some consider a 3-series to be a sports car, but ask someone with a Caymen/Boxter/911/Ferrari/Lambo/etc, and the 3-series is an econo-box sedan - not a sports car. Ask someone with a Kenworth, an F150 or a Taurus, and yes, the 3-series is a sports car. The real question is: does it matter? Are you really going to get rid of your car if you find out that after all this time you've been driving a "base model"? Come on man, grow a set, and appreciate what you've got. What someone else has is irrelevant (whether it's nicer than your car or not). |

Tell him to stick it. You have sport package, real leather, 6mt plus more, it's a nice ride and clearly not "base". Tell him when he's paying for it than he's entitled to have an opinion. There will always be haters, just enjoy your ride.

"Base" cars are faster because they have less weight. I.e., no heavy motors in the seats, no heavy "TI-3x" computer driving the iDrive, no heavy CA sensors all about the vehicle, no other options that just add weight. That's one nice advantage. ;D
PS - I'd never see that car as base. It looks fancy.

I would have just laughed in his face!
When I first got my BMW, a co worker said to me" If I were to buy a BMW, it would have to be a 5 series or 7 series, the interior looks much nicer" She drove a Merc CLK 350. Then proceeded to tell me Mercedes has better looking interior. I just laughed. Some people are ignorant.

I bought a base model 335i, essentially. No iDrive, auto, non-sport. All it had above base was the premium package, which included leather power seats with lumbar support, folding, heated auto-dimming mirrors, BMW Assist, and floor mats.
I then added the Performance Sports Suspension and the Stage 2 PPK.

I would love to add a driver's sport seat at some point. Better wheels and paddle shifters too.
