E91 Rear Wiper stuck
First problem already
The rear wiper doesn't work. I tried to use it this morning, it dragged itself slowly up to a vertical position, and refused to move any further. When I parked at work, I opened the glass section and slammed it shut, wondering if that might help, but no joy. With everything switched off, I managed to push the wiper back to its resting position, but it's not a good start. Is it worth me trying to strip it and grease it or is it more likely to be a faulty wiper motor, needing to go back for a warranty fix? Ta |

Update to this - it's still not working, but I put a little bit of oil around the spindle this afternoon and left it for a while before trying again. Still no luck
The wiper arm moves freely with the glass section raised, and strangely also moves freely with the glass down and wiper switched on, almost although the motor isn't powerful enough to move it. Looks like I'll be booking it in next week then

This is the rotating disc that moves the wiper (as the motor is in the tailgate not the glass obviously), there's a peg on the back of the wiper arm that should go into the hole in the disc when you shut the glass. If your wiper arm is moving freely with the glass shut then one of 2 things has happened: 1. The wiper arm peg is not locating in the disc hole (most likely) 2. The disc has broken free of the drive motor and is just freely moving Can you hear the motor whirring when you try to operate the wiper electrically? Look and see where the disc hole is, then see if the wiper peg (with wiper in rest, 9 o'clock, position, is in the same place. Let us know.. |

When I tried to use the wiper and it got stuck halfway, I could hear the motor from the drivers' seat, but after leaving it switched on and walking to the back of the car, I couldn't hear a thing, even when I helped the arm back to its resting position. My next day off is Tuesday, it's booked in for then so it will be interesting to hear what they say

Thanks doughboy
Checked peg etc earlier, it's seated in the hole. And the wiper on my car also gets stuck about halvway. Talked to my BMW shop today as well as an independent workshop. Both guessed it was most likely a bearing failure in the wipershaft pivot (item no 10 in this OEM-part overview: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...&fg=45&lang=en). Got a service date set for the 17th of May, I'll get back w more info after that. |

the motor on my 330d E46 tourer did that............. the motor will have seized up
it was only about £50-£55 for a new genuine motor assembly and was a very simple DIY fit..............

That's good to know - but I'm hoping it will be FOC under warranty

It will be a failed motor.....easy to replace and should all be covered under the warranty. What else hasn't been checked properly prior to sale I wonder??

I started the thread when I wondered if a spanner and an oil can would save me the trip to the garage - but no worries

Hi,
I've got a 2006 E91 with rear wash wipe issues. There is no movement from the motor with the tailgate up. I have checked the voltage to the plug and there is a constant 12v at the middle pin (brown/blue thin wire) but nothing on the heavy brown wire. Please can someone confirm the fuse number for the rear wash wipe, I have looked at the chart within the glove box, it looks as though its a common fuse for the front and rear wipers, fuse 48?? Please can someone also advise on the rear wash wipe control relay number and position within the car? Cheers! |

Leave it in the vertical position for the Renault 5 GT Turbo look....?!
These issues are usually down to wires breaking in the rubber tube that connects the tailgate to the body - but I'm not sure if the E91 has this arrangement? |

I have a different problem, my wiper won't move at all on my e91, but the motor works (you can hear it). The wiper won't move even when glass section is lifted... Help!

As above - the wiper won't move with the glass up - the mechanism to move the arm relies on the glass being down and the pin located properly.

From what Im beginning to understand, the wiper becomes stuck due to rust, corrosion and lack of grease. this will eventually burn the motor out. The armature needs to be patiently freed with WD40, or other penetrating fluid, then greased so it moves freely with the glass up (not engaged with the motor drive gear)
start there, then see if the motor still works. Heres a diagram: look at part #10.... Its best to get that part out of the car....I can look up how to do that if you cant figure it out. JP |
