Morel, Jehnert, SWS-8 and SSMB

In the quest to achieve optimum result I bought many things, currently in my stock I have these items:

For underseat:
SWS-8 (currently installed), SSMB8 and Jehnert XE200

For door card:
Logic 7 (currently installed), Morel Hybrid Ovation and Jehnert

Trunk:
Custom made side mounting enclosure with JL 12"

All powered by PDX-4 and PDX-5, processed by MS-8

I am yet to install full set but wondering what is the best combination, I am thinking of:

Morel Ovation on front door card, Logic 7 with a tweeter in centre, Jehnert underseat and JL 12" in custom enclosure in trunk. Rest all will be spare and will be sold.

What do you guys think, is this combination right or shall I use SWS-8 or SSMB8 for underseats and Jehnert mids on door card instead of Morel? Please suggest me better combination.

Morels in the doors for sure. Center you should get the Morel coax. Underseats you should try both Jehnerts and Kickers and see which ones you like better.

Installing kicker will be big deal for me as I don't have thick spacer. I will need to cut one and that is no easy job. I am thinking of using Jehnert as I have its spacer and install will be dead easy.

Why man why all major audio work starts in winter.

This is my custom trunk enclosure, this is for E60, made 2, one for my friend.

Due to this I will change SWS-8 to Jehnert or Kicker.

It is not a new start, I already have MS-8 and a custom audio setup, just got new drivers for better staging and sq. originally I started with basic audio (6 speaker system)

Hunt for center morel in a reasonable budget will continue. In the mean time I will keep L7 speaker with tweeter attached to it.

Some really good work is going on

Did you make these on your own?

As discussed in your other thread, with the sub in trunk recommendations are to go for SSMB.

Without sub, SWS-8s.

These are professionally made, costs around £275 + p&p.

I will try with Jehnert first, unsure how good SSMB will be in comparision with Jehnert but I am not willing to spend anymore money/effort for extra spacer for SSMB.

Too cold and raining most of this weekend so as soon as it is dry I will start this project.

Will keep you all posted.

I have a choice of JL W6v2 12" and JL W7 13.5", I know that JL W7 will need a new enclosure which I can source aswell. I am wondering if JL W7 is going to be overkill? Is it really worth all the pain of getting a new enclosure done or shall I go for W6.

Please advise guys.

If you like your music balanced, then W6.
If you prefer to have heavy bass / louder bass compare to mids / high frequency components, W7 should be your choice.

What type of enclosure would you get for the W7?

Its hard to integrate a W7 in a BMW sealed boot (assuming you have a sealed boot) without getting a lot of shitty rattle, because it requires a bigger enclosure than what is available in the corner. Even if you got one of those Zenclosures you will still get rattle.

W6 is a much more musical sub and should have the right volume in the corner.

Have you considered an IB install?

I will visit my enclosure maker to get suggestion which one will be suitable. Mine has ski port folding seat. Not sure it will help or not. I was thinking of either a custom centre mounted opening into ski port or getting a long custom side enclosure made.

Now I am getting a feel that W7 isn't really right option for me.

W7 need atleast 50 litres of volume whereas W6 needs 35L, at the moment I have 25L, could be made better with fibreglass filling.

Afsar, do some googling on "Ascendant Audio Havoc 12". It will be perfect for 25L. It will be my next sub! You may need a bigger amp, though....

Today I fired up the boot sub but result if not as good as expected. Overall sound is very boomy and a little bass rattles the whole parcel shelf like a toy

Plan was to install Jehnert replacing SWS-8 but couldn't do much it was so windy outside.

Not sure how do you guys do it? MS-8 set at 20Hz subsonic, 80Hz lowpass for the boot enclosure, all L7 speakers + underseats as sws-8 so front setup as 2 way with 150hz crossover point in MS-8 all round. Sounds too boomy, anything under 40-30Hz a little of extra volume and parcel shelf rattles like anything.

My setup at the moment

JL 12W6v2 mounted in the custom enclosure in the boot corner (just above the battery trim)
