Xdrive front "reinforcements"

Hello guys,

I am curious if the circled "sway bars" in the pictures below are stock for xdrive models or the previous owner added them to reinforce the front-end?

Anyone else has these?

The rods you are looking at are OEM structural braces that came with your car. They come stock on all e92 coupes (regardless of XDrive or RWD)

If I'm not mistaken, they are added as additional/supplemental structural support, in part because the e92 coupes have lightweight thermoplastic front fenders (for weight reduction), while the e90 sedans have steel front fenders so those rods aren't used on them.

See #2 in the realOEM diagram.

How ridiculous is that, put plastic fenders on the car to save weight....then install 2 steel tubes with bolts to support the structure because they used plastic fenders. After all that is there really a beneficial weight reduction? Plus how flimsy are the cars in the first place if removing a steel fender requires the chassis to be reinforced? lol

Don't quote me on this, since it's just a notion, but maybe the engineers used the tubes to optimize chassis performance and decided to replace steel fenders with plastic to save weight and sacrifice a thin margin of difference between collision performance between the two materials?
