Injector Problem
I just got my car back for a SES light. Luckily I have an extended warranty but they are of course giving me problems.
The tech found that they need to replace Injectors 4&5, Replace pre-heating Module and replace Mass air sensor. This sounds similar to other people’s problems. I have 60Kmiles on my ride. The problem I am having with the warranty group is that they had BMW clear the codes and gave me my car back. They are only whiling to fix it once the SES light comes on and the codes come back. Hopefully after a few days of driving it comes on and they will buck up and pix the problem. Here is the service log image that shows their recommendations |

Unfortunately this looks like I'm headed down the path others have taken with the Carbon Build up problem.
Hopefully the Extended 100k 6 year warranty I bought for this very reason works. |

What kind of a joke dealership is this man? Take the car and see if the SES light comes back on? There are times when you have to be a dick and tell them to fix it because they will under warranty.
How will clearing the codes fix an obvious trouble? |

Of course the light just came back on today and I took it in. The problem was with the warranty companies inspector who was sent out. He told the dealership they would not cover it unless the dealer cleared the codes and then the SES came back on again.
They are fixing it and gave me a loaner car luckily. |

I first posted this back Nov 20th 2012 and it is now Jan 6th and I still don't have my car back. The latest is that the Carbon Buildup issue is not the problem. I irony is that the first time they showed me the codes I mentioned to them it looked like the Carbon Buildup issue which they ignored me on.
To top everything off the warranty company is claiming they will not cover the Carbon Buildup issue because it is emissions related which is complete bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need your help on getting them to cover the issue. I am not spending $4,000 + to fix some flawed design issue that BMW can't seem to find a fix for. My issue is that you spend $60,000 + extended warranty on a vehicle that is a diesel which should last longer than a gas version and I am having serious problems at just over 60k miles. Shit the engine is barley even broken in! I am so mad to the point where I am considering selling the car right after I fix it and turning my back on BMW forever!!!!!!! It is one thing if this issue is an easy fix and due to my own bad driving habits but in this day and age to have a car that has serious issues before 100K miles is a bad product in my opinion. Sorry for the long rant for I needed to vent and make sure I am not loosing my mind. |

Sorry to hear about that, man. Have you spoken to BMW USA about getting this covered on good will? I would probably be well into the process of raising hell if I had gone that long without my vehicle. Between the never ending reprograms and the various recalls, it should be pretty easy to place blame on design flaw.
Out of curiosity, have you ever gone through your tickets to verify that they changed your fuel filter every second oil change? I caught the dealer skipping it on mine (and the engine air filter). I was noticing less power (nothing severe but somewhat noticeable) and a 5-10% reduction in mpg when I brought it to them. Seems to be back in action now (although ice only had it back for 3 days). Hopefully I caught it before it caused any issues (I was changing my air filters anyway, but not the fuel filter). Dirty fuel filters can definitely cause injector issues (especially since ours have some sort of water drying but no way to drain it off. Thus, they must have some limit of liquid which they can store. Good luck! |

I now have the SES light ON and my idle + low RPM acceleration is erratic. The OBD code is P02CE "Cylinder 2 fuel injector offset learning at minimum limit". I will call the dealer Monday morning to schedule a service.
I have 39K miles and still under warranty. It seem to me that the injectors on the 335d are not that reliable! Maybe I should consider a good extended warranty! I hope you get it resolved with your extended warranty. |

I'm on a similar boat as you. you are not alone. I had SES light for injector. Dealer changed injector and SES light came back. After back and forth by dealership and BMW NA, they decided to replace the computer. SES light is no longer on and all monitors are finally ready. I still don't have my car back as it needs Approval by BMW NA before release by the dealership. It's been 3+ weeks.
They also said it does not look like carbon build up related... All emissions components by law is supposed to be 75k (I think). So BMW needs to take care of this, as long as it can be traced to an emissions related issue. |

I typically run Chevron diesel here in Salt Lake City. I do travel a lot because I am in the commercial real estate business and fill up at different stations when I have to.
Here is a dumb question. How and who do I get a hold of at BMW NA? Puerto Rican 335d - I wish I read your post prior to taking it in the last time. I would have used the injector cleaner. |

Anybody know if there are aftermarket injectors that are better available for our cars?

Car manufacturers design the application and require specific injector performance as it is vital for emissions. Number of holes, fuel spray angle and fuel delivery rate are platform/engine specific. The M57 utilizes Bosch piezo injectors which are among the fastest available. This enables multiple open/closure fuel injection cycles during each compression/ignition event. On the weak side they are not as durable as the magnetic driven ones. There are other piezo injectors available but all are application specific. You may buy service parts from other brands but none will fit the M57. Even if any is 'mountable', the sofware will either not recognize them or will require adpatations that would impact emissions/performance. That means you will get into bigger problem than the one you are trying to address.
