BMWs are meant to be driven. Not Puttered around in. Just like sportbikes and Rotary engines, NOT running them hard on a regular basis is detrimental to their health. Bouncing off the rev limiter, pinning the throttle to the floor through the gears, and otherwise letting your vehicle run? That's Not abuse, it's what they are designed for. Abuse, is running your car in traffic every day, never running it up to 7k RPM, short shifting all the time and not getting enough heat in the motor for it to keep itself clean and free of any deposits and carbon. That's abuse. I've seen a lot of low mileage motors come into the shop running like crap, that have their performance improved dramatically by a simple "Italian Tune Up". Simply Driving the piss outta it for awhile and getting everything good and hot and exercised. Especially performance engines! You've got to RUN EM' or they ROT. So RUN THE PISS outta your Bimmer once a week or so, go play up in the canyons! Your car and your stress levels will thank you for it.

BAH! I use the Ignition Interrupt on my bike at redline as an AUTOshifter. Pre-load the shifter, ignition cuts out and the lever SNICKS right into the next gear... No worries, Yeah, you don't want to live on the rev limiter, but at the same time it's there to prevent potential damage. Key though is NOT forcing your car into a mechanical over rev where ignition cut off or not you're going above redline.... Otherwise Run the shit out of a performance engine... :rocks:

to coincide with the oil service interval coming on. Current miles: 19175. Next interval reads: 19000 miles. I did my first one at 1300 miles and thereafter every 4500. Wasn't gonna wait 19000 for an oil change. |

I do lots of stop and go traffic but when I get a chance I do open it up and have fun so I am not sure if the gallon/useage method of oil change calculation is correct. Since I am averaging 18 mpg and doing the 666 gallon consumed would put me at 12k miles oil change. |
