Does anyone know why the "engine oil level" is shown as being this low? It was at 25% when I started up the vehicle and stayed at 38% just before I turned it off. I figured it would be closer to 100. It must be monitored somehow differently than the 1-100 range. I also asked the app developer to add some "boost" parameters for our turbos and he said he found them and will with the next update:

engine oil level measured while the engine is running?
I would think that while it's running there will be very little in the oil pan since most of it would be all over the internals.

I got the ELM bluetooth module from eBay amigo. Very easy to track down if you search it on eBay.

Silly question, but does this clear any codes that would result from going into limp mode? Recently put a JBD on my car and would like to carry the wifi module along so I can reset if I happen to trigger limp mode on the highway.

I tried with my Bluetooth ELM327, and got the error message. Not sure how you got yours to work. Worst case I guess I have to buy the developer's adapter.

I have a 2010 with the newest DDE released by BMW.

What version of his app are you using? I'm at 9.20 but I noticed he had an update for 9.23 last night.

9.20. Mt RPM on the homecreen worked and I was able to see the parameters, but I get that error as soon as I start to monitor.

I will also try with the 9.23, just downloaded it.

I do have the USB OBD cable, just in case the BT does no work.

Let me know. My car is a 2009 so I might have a different DDE than you. Not sure.

I had no problems with 9.20 but haven't tried yet with 9.23.

Still unable to use the parameters with my BT ELM327. Most probably I'll purchase the developers BT adapter, cause I'm pretty sure I'm keeping this app for as long as I own cars, lol.

Maybe we have a different DDE...

Looks like a new update for the BMWhat app. Says new engine parameters have been added but not sure if that includes our cars too.

What a joke. Just tried ver 9.25 and now my parameters won't work.I get a message telling me I need the developer's adapter.

Sent him this email message:

Hey Parvis,

Just updated to 9.25 and my engine parameters don't work now. Why would you code out my BT module so that I'm forced to buy yours?

That's not cool man.

I doubt he did it on purpose, as he sells the ELM327 on his site as well for like $3 less, However, he does mention it may have unreliable communition with the newer cars. The BT ELM327 and parameters work fine with the E46; tried it on my brother's 2001 325i.

It's worked perfectly fine for my car. Have had it on for two weeks straight with the car running and engine parameters on. Here was his last reply:

Hi John

Â*

I did not code out any specific module – but the issue is that some just had so many faults in the background that I had to filter out those again that create trouble with the ECUs due to too many faults.

Â*

The App registers the faults in the background and if it turns out to be too dangerous for the ECU it stops this communication.

Â*

I had that in the app from the very beginning, but then I relaxed it in the last versions since some users have asked me…

Â*

Now again I had feedback from users that the cars even stopped running in certain cases which is quite dangerous while driving – since many users monitor the parameters during driving!

Â*

So it’s really just about safety.

Â*

Please keep in mind that to get to all this data the app communicates the BMW language not the normal OBD – while this allows much more detailed information it is much more complex too and there are lots of messages going back and forth.

Â*

Sorry that your adapter did not meet the quality requirements for that particular engine – but it really happens to only some specific engines –those Â*which are the most complex ones.

Â*

Kind regards and best greetings

Â*

Parvis

Good another SES, just in time to take a 2014 BMW loaner on another long road trip.

Guess it's the second time this code is back after they changed the metering valve.
I have no idea what the other BMW specific code is for.

Attached is screenshot from BMWhat and Torque.
