Eventually had it remapped........

Well after a few posts and numerous searches i finanally decided to get the car remapped (320d Msport). Its done 5 k (in 5 weeks) so have had some time to evaluate it and was way better than my A4 TDI 130 but didnt have the go to keep me happy. Its a dialy driver so need it to keep me entertained.

It was going to be either superchips or DMS etc. and decided to go the DMS route. As i was going to a Stag party in Newquay that weekend i booked it on on the Friday before i went. Got it bit cheeper than advertised as i was going to them in Southampton.

Got to the premesise and well what can i say there is a Ferrari place a couple of doors down and and BMW place next door nice cars every where. In side DMS there was a brand spanking new 997 Turbo having the 600hp conversion exhaust manifolds turbos changed. Beast.

Any way the bonnet was undone and the ECU taken out and plugged in the laptop. There are a couple of maps for the car the the DMS car (320d has the most tweeked map and is probabley the stated 209hp) customer maps may be a little less but im guessing. Had a good chat with them as i work for Garrett Turbochargers so got a bit techie) So about 30mins later the ECU was fitted back into the car then i was thrown the keys to take it for a test drive.

Now it starts up as normal and were off instantly the car is so much more responsive, previously you need to push the pedel some way for it to go. Now with quarter throttle its as quick before the remap. Previously the engine power seemed to be damped but now it there is no lag / sluggishness at all. In 2/3/4/5/6 it feels very very different there is genuine urge from under 2k and it equally as smooth as before and pulls clean to just shy of 4.5k.

Now im used to very fast cars as i used to a couple of tuned EVO as second cars so used to race a bit etc but i have to say im genuinely impressed with the performance.

I havent had any rolling road result and probabley wont get any but after the 500miles so far and a run upto 150 with a 3 ltr Z4 and he only pulled 3 to 4 car lengths from 50mph i can confirm the performance. Plus it feels quicker than the D3 Alpinas i have tried as i was going to get one of those but the interior is horrid.

Thoughly recommend DMS for service and product, its made a good car into a very very good car.

My standard 320d wants 2k rpm before behaving as expected. (well it's only normal, considering the torque diagram). Probably yours was the same before remapping.

I was used with a slightly different torque vs rpm layout and it's a little annoying. Now you say it goes better from under 2k. How low under? Where do you start feeling the strong pull? Is the threshold as clear as before (not a good thing i.m.h.o)?

Did you get any graphs or equivalent? Would you post them, if so?

I'm very jealous, have to wait to next bonus before I can get this done!

How is the 0 - 60? Would you say it was seconds quicker or is it all in gear where the power is noticable?

You said a bit cheaper than advertised - I thought there was a 'forum' deal somewhere if you go to them? Or not?

When I enquired late last year I got this response

DMS Automotive

"Thanks for the enquiry. 208 BHP and 406 Nm. Price is £595+vat. BMW are unable to detect the changes made with dealer service and diagnostic equipment. They can overwrite the upgrade by giving the car a new software version. If this is the case we will re install without charge. Cost £595+vat. If you get hold of a past copy BMW Car you will see road test on our 320D M sport."

This price was before any discount and it was for them to come to you.

Have you noticed any more emissions coming out the back when you push it?

Mine doesnt have the dpf so had a little before but not much, certainly not like the VAG's. Not noticed any change to be honest.

I have also cut my exhaust and fitted the chrome trim.

Great stuff - if I had a diesel I would definitely take a trip down to DMS.

I can well believe that your remapped 320d could keep up with a z4 3.0 litre.

dpf = diesel particulate filter - little filter that lets' you have a straight exhaust on a modern diesel.

VAG = Volkswagen Audi Group - sinister alternative German car manufacturer that bizarrely tries to compete with BMW using front wheel drive vehicles.

Just do it... it pulls hard from 1.7k instead of 2k and through to 4.5k instead of 4k.

Hp 209 & 305 (1.9k-3k) ft/lb

Very very responsive.
