Ambiance by ddk632, on Flickr

"Ambiance"

The SLS Hotel in Miami Beach, an iconic location, lit up at night with a perfect ambiance.

Shot handheld at ISO 5000 with the 6D and Canon TS-E 17mm, slightly corrected for verticals (rotated) and otherwise this is how it came out of the camera. Minimal editing on this one. The night light did all the work!

Great, very classy location for an evening drink in Miami Beach.

Cool shot, David.

That's some serious snow, Rem.

I finally got to grab some BIF shots at Ormond Beach, just north of Daytona today.

Last night on the road. This is the view from our hotel room in Nashville. It's The Parthenon in Centennial Park. Shot with the 5D MkIII and the Sigma 120-300.

Thanks, Ed. My tripod is in the car, so I just set the rig on a small table and used the 2-sec timer. The Sigma does *not* like the stab turned on when the rig is on a table or tripod. I kept getting fuzzy images until I killed the stabilization.

I came home today after playing with the 1.4 mounted on the new zoom, and the half moon was shining right over my driveway, which means I am obligated to take yet another moon shot. The autofocus, while center point only and limited to f8 with this combination is still quite good. I am going to sell my 400 5.6 prime as it is totally redundant now. The image quality of the zoom is on par with the prime, and the IS is excellent making it a no brainer. The waxing gibbous at 560mm (on the 1DIV)

Nice moon shot Ed. Was that hand held? (Lack of IS on the 400/f5.6 was always a problem for me. I hated using a tripod for such a light lens). Also, did you use any Digital Lens Optimization in Raw conversion?

Dave

ISO 3200 with the 7D2. (I see lots of noise in the Raw file, but it cleans up really nicely):

I minimize luminescence NR to avoid crushing fur detail.

Thanks Dave. Yes,it was handheld. No lens optimization because they don't have a profile for this lens yet in Lightroom.

Neat. It'll get even better with DLO.

I've added it to my wish list, sometime after I get my 500/f4-SII.

Canon's DPP has added DLO for the new 100-400mm. You might try doing the Raw conversion in DPP and saving to TIFF and then finishing in LR. It'll be interesting to see if there's improvement.

That smacks of effort on my vacation week

Seriously, I may give that a whirl, but I still have a few hundred other files I am working on from my last few outings, and I am thinking of heading out to a park today (after the fog burns off and I finish my coffee).

Don't do it for me.

If DLO does anything useful, you'd think that you'd be able to see it on a tele-zoom. BTW, the new DPP did actually come into the 21st century with its new UI. When I first got the 7D2, I used it to convert the Raw files and it did a good job, just really slow.
