You've come to the right place! I had base audio (you think YOU got it bad??), but after heavy research here I'm very happy (but still tweaking) my system.

Changed out the HU for a double din screen (no idrive), JL 700/5, 3-way drop in kit, and a JL 10" in the boot.

Assuming you know what the output of NBT is

Assuming you know what the output of NBT is
Hi Fi, base or L7 everything should be the same.
Although I here the f30 hi fi has a 5th channel .
Don't know it that comes from the amp or head unit.
I would look up Technic on one of the boards he is still
on or at his site and also talk to the NBT guys.

Jehnert is you are adding an amp

Jehnert is you are adding an amp
assuming you are not a bass head and want full mid bass and mid range that is warm and accurate.
and its not that lacking on low bass either.

MTX Audio TX6.BMW

Another drop-in (theoretically) replacement kit for BMWs, found out about this one today and did some digging around: MTX Audio TX6.BMW, around 330 GBP, some lower prices found (techniauto.es).

- available in EU only although MTX is a US company.
- Wouldn't be at their best until amplified by an aftermarket amp.
- very few testimonies available, most likely at the lower end of the HiFi scale.

http://www.mtxaudio.eu/products/cara...category_id=67

Just adding for the sake of completeness. If you're tempted to go find reviews, tests etc, I would say don't bother but maybe you'll get lucky. I found one (French) install in a BMW 5 series with base audio, and the owner said just adding the tweeter made a big difference...reading between the lines he wasn't blown away. Did read a few comments along the lines of "stay away from the brand" which may apply only to their low end gear.

About the Focal IFBMW-S component kit, the current documentation excludes the E92 and E93 from the compatibility list. There is also a review left on the Focal home page by a very disappointed man saying he purchased the kit for his E92/3 and couldn't install it, and that his pleas for help were ignored by Focal for four months and maybe more.

So now that the Focal IFBMW-S component kit for the E92 specifically is out of the question, what other speaker upgrades besides the Focal 100KRS do you guys recommend or know that fits?

Rainbow Audio: here is a compatibility table for their current range. There are speakers that will work with the E92.

http://www.rainbow-audio.de/wp-conte...te_2015-11.pdf

And here is the list of items listed as tailored/suited for BMW:

http://www.rainbow-audio.de/en/speak...ence-line/bmw/

PS: I don't mean to spam and I apologize if I repost data, but these latest posts from me are to highlight items that are specified as compatible with the E92. It's not always easy to dig up all the information in a long thread, plus it's been a few years since Kaigoss started this great thread and it might help those of us still looking out for E92 solutions.

MATCH by Audiotec Fischer: a range of products offering straight replacements for OEM.

HELIX - this range of products was and may still be referenced as Helix products.

For BMW: http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/e...ducts/speaker/

For E92 specifically...

MS 83C-BMW.1: 3-way set (underseat, door mid, tweeter)
http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/e...s-83c-bmw.html

MS 42C-BMW.1: 2-way set (door mid, tweeter)
http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/e...s-42c-bmw.html

Both underseat subs are compatible, not sure if one is the older version or just two different offerings...

MS 8B-BMW.2: underseat woofer
http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/e...s-8b-bmw2.html
MS 8B-BMW.1: underseat woofer
http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/e...s-8b-bmw1.html

NB: universal version MS 42C not expected to work according to dimensions shown in user manual (min 44.5 mounting depth).

ESX (brand of Audio Design GmbH Germany)

They have some BMW-specific products compatible with quite a large number of models including the E92.

VS100C BMW: 2-way component set (door mid, tweeter)
http://www.esxaudio.de/pages/vision/vs100c.htm
VS200W BMW: underseat sub (speaker only, no enclosure)
http://www.esxaudio.de/pages/vision/vs200w.htm#

VS200C BMW (VS100C BMW + VS200W BMW): 3-way complete package.
http://www.esxaudio.de/pages/vision/vs200c.htm

Described as semi-active so requiring some amplification. The following excerpt is taken from the installation manual:
"The VS200C BMW is a partially active 3-way sound system that must be operated by a 4-channel amplifier or two 2-channel am- plifiers! These amplifiers must have an adjustable low-pass filter on 2 channels and an adjustable high pass filter on the other 2 channels. Please refer to the instructions in section „6. Amplifier Interconnection“."

"The midwoofers and tweeters must be driven in any case by a high pass filtered channel pair, otherwise the speakers could be damaged with too low frequencies."

It could be. From reading around it seems like MTX is a company that has released some quality products and earned their share of supporters, but may be guilty of the usual production of lower quality items to gain sales volume. We'd really need some feedback from MTX owners and from people who have in-depth understanding of driver manufacturing to figure out what this set is capable of.

GLADEN

The current drivers available are listed on a single page here:
http://www.gladen.com/compo_coax.html

The following are tailored specifically for BMW. I did not list the kits for E46 but they can be found on the same page.

ONE 201 BMW ALPHA (Previous model ONE 200 BMW)
Car specific 3-way system for E.. Models (without E92/93)
- 4" normal ferric midrange
- 4-channel amplifier required
- Cheaper crossover
- 4*130/85W @ 4 Ohm

ONE LINE 201
Car specific 3-way semi-active system for BMW 1, 3 and 5 series (including E92/E93)
- Increased power: 4x 150/100 W
- Slimmer woofer, also P&P for F10/11...
- 25 mm silk dome tweeter, 4” shallow midrange, 8” shallow woofer
- 3 ohm impedance
- 4 channel amplifier required

ONE LINE 201 Extreme (more powerful version of ONE Line 201)
- 2*150/100W @ 3 Ohm (mid/high)
- 2*225/150W @ 2 Ohm (woofer)

The 8" underseat mid-bass woofers were not listed separately on the Gladen web site, or at least I could not find them. However they are sold by some dealers either individually or more often as identical pairs. Their power specs match those of the underseats packaged with the 3-way sets above. I will add only one link as an example but there are multiple dealers selling them at slightly different prices.

HG-201BMW-3 mid bass woofers
http://www.germaniks.com/speakers/gl...s-bmw-e6x-e9x/
HG-201 BMW-2-EXTREME mid-bass woofers
http://www.germaniks.com/subwoofers/...e-bmw-woofers/

ONE 100 BMW
- 2-way coaxial kit for 1- and 3-series
- E82/87/88/90/91/92/93
- 2*90/60W @ 4 Ohm

Also of interest, some shallow depth kits in larger diameter ( bigger than 4")
- SLIM line, depths of 32mm (5"), 43mm (6.5")
- M-LINE Slim, depth of 52mm (6.5")

The other product lines have drivers of various sizes, I won't list them all here. Some of those are 4" and may be suited for your application.

B2 have other drivers and subs so I won't list them all, maybe just draw attention to these babies if only because they are the coolest looking drivers I have ever seen, plus they are around the 4" mark.

Audiofrog

http://www.audiofrog.com/

Audiofrog are a fairly recent company setup by veterans in the field of car audio. Their products are built for sound quality and they describe their range as audiophile-level. The reason I write this is to warn you that Audiofrog are in a different price segment altogether compared to the previous offerings I've linked to. They do have experienced SQ amateurs and professionals giving very enthusiastic feedback about their drivers so it's not just hype.

Audiofrog are open about the fact that some of their products have been tailored for use in BMWs. They don't have an 8" replacement for the underseats yet but they say their 6.5" will do the job perfectly. Whether they would be easy to setup as underseats replacements is something to look into. They do have drop-in straight replacement drivers for 4", 1" and possibly others. The other thing to note is that their products come with good installation kits to make them work in different setups. Crutchfield have a page dedicated to Audiofrog which includes comments and suggestions from the Audiofrog developers so you can have a look there to get a better idea of how the products could be used.

Examples of products:

GS40 - 4" midrange woofer, 48mm install depth

GB40 - 4" midrange woofer, 41mm install depth
