This is my first car without a window frame and I was wondering what would happen if ice or snow builds up in the window trim and interfere with the auto window lowering function of the car

I had no problems with the snow from last night but the combination of crazy wind and mixed snow covered my car with ice while I was in a coffee place tonight. I had to pull my door lever harder to get into the car because the whole car was frozen and thought the sound of the window lowering itself was a little bit louder than usual.

Wouldn't these winter conditions give extra load to window regulators and finally break them? Or are they already engineered to endure such weather conditions? Any thoughts or facts would be appreciated

if the window doesn't auto lower as normal, the door can still be opened. But good luck closing the door until the window defrosts enough to move the window. I've been stuck twice with my door hanging open because it won't shut properly since the window got stuck in place. I just douce hot water on it before I open the door now.

I have no problem with this and this is my second winter, but you can do what DJKhan85 does and it will work.

But my doors seem to open and brake the ice with no problems at all.

If anything try to scrape as much of the ice as you can before opening it.

I ran into this problem this morning. Auto window wouldn't go down even after a good drive. I had to leave my car with the gap caused by the window.

I consider myself lucky I didn't come back to a seat full of snow or even worse, someone breaking in.

Has anyone found anything new on this since this original thread in 09? I have an 09 with this issue. I can't find any other e90post threads related to this.

I do notice when this happens, and I go to close the door, the window is just barely catching the lip, like a mm or two.

If you close the door from outside of the car and press in on the window slightly, it clears the lip and closes.

I wonder if adjusting the pitch of the window by a degree or two would allow the door to close, without the window dropping.

I had this issue the other day. I haven't heard of any fix to this.

Maybe a suction cup from inside to pull the window in a bit from the top in order to close the door.

Get a spray bottle of windshield deicer and keep it in the trunk. Windows frozen, just spray along the bottom of the glass.

Do not recommend hot water. Can shatter the glass if the glass is really cold.

I put some silicone grease spray under the seal that the window slides against when going up and down, between door and window.

On super icy cold days, and I mean like -40c, the grease may not be effective, I then run a card between the seal and the window. (Outside of course)

That is where it freezes and stops the window from moving.
