What do you suggest.
Changing the oil in my car for the first time since I got it.
2006 325i sport sedan Manual 91k I drive about 80 miles a say to and from work mostly highway. Sometimes I have my aggressive tendencies while driving. |

What is your question? Should you change? Yes, at that mileage (unless your service record shows a very recent change of course). Which oil? Do a search...that question's been asked a zillion times before.

Yea just asking what oil is recommended and what others are using. Also I have searched but sifting through all the sarcastic banter and bs in each thread is a waste of time. Also just pisses me off the people can type a few sentences about how people don't search and insult them, but you could have just been helpful and answered the question.

I change mine every 5K regardless what the service indicator reflects. Sometimes it might be closer to 7,500K. Usually whenever it’s in the shop for service, i usually shoot for twice a year. A bit overkill but doesn’t bother me for the piece of mind.

Are you doing it yourself? The first time I did it I got the kit from Tischer & had I wait a few days to get it shipped. This last time I called up my dealership's parts dept. to see how much they charged. Price was comparable to Tischer's with no wait so I just got it locally.

I use Mobil1 0W40 Euro formula.
about $7 per qt youll need 7 qts i think get a filter from bavauto, etc for $7 (advance or autozone may have one) Follow a DIY thread on here to do it the first time Buy a strap wrench at advance autoparts to loosen the oil filter housing cap as it is a pain and you dont wanna spend $25 on the special tool. And yeah, people forget these forums are usually just people being humble enough to ask for help and give a doushe response instead of just helping someone out and replying. |

Didn't mean to be unhelpful, but I honestly couldn't tell from your first post what you're question was. Problem with asking the 'oil question' is you'll get as many opinions as people who respond. I use Mobil 1 0W-40 if it's any help...

Ask and u shall receive. Ta Daa,
http://www.getbmwparts.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462 PS. Ive also used Mobil1 0w40 in my old e90 with no problems and a OEM filter from the parts counter, I did that when mobil1 was on sale at autozone |

Alright, to the OP it tells you in your manual what oil to use. If you got one than great learn to read it but if not than i'm sorry go buy one
But think OEM when you don't know what fluid to use because asking this kind of question you'll get lots of answers since everyone cares for their car differently. No disrespect but you don't have common sense, i'm just sayin'. |

Hate jump in here, but all everyone is saying is read the owners manual. You could also look at the maintenance section of the Forum. There is a "Sticky" there that discusses oil ad nauseam. Finally, the CBS (Condition-Based Service) built into the car will tell you when the oil needs topping off and when it needs changing; so asking "when" you should change your oil is a sort of a dumb question to us here since we all know that the car tells you when the oil needs changing (and has a count-down of the estimated miles left on the oil currently in the engine).
You'll find a million threads on discussion and debate regarding changing at BMWs recommended interval, which is either 12 months (minimum for low-mileage-use cars), or per the CBS OCI (Oil Change Interval) that averages around 15,000 miles; or changing earlier than that, say at half the rate - i.e. 7,500 miles. Or you could go crazy and get a sample of the oil, send it to a lab, pay/waste $25 to have it analyzed, and go by the lab's recommendation. Personally I have changed my N52 engine oil with BMW OEM oil and filter (the kit from Tischer) at my car's CBS OCI, which is averaging around every 17,500 miles.
