Suicide or Murder?

Lets say you built a time machine and went into the future to kill your future-self. Is that suicide or murder?

Now, let's say you killed your clone. Is that suicide or murder?

suicide/murder because your future self is still you, but a clone is not.

I'd argue your future self is a completely different person who thinks, feels, values, and behaves differently than you. Plus, I'd say that your clone probably thinks, feels, values, and behaves exactly like you.

Yeah, and how do you suppose you'd go about making a clone? With YOUR life.

Sure, I can understand that. Your clone is a replica, but not you exactly. I get it.

What I'm saying is, what's the difference between killing that and a future-self who isn't you, and on top of that, different than you are?

In other words, where does the line between suicide and murder exist between killing your future self as opposed to your clone? If your future-self is different in almost all ways, and your clone is exactly the same in almost all ways, why is it we draw the conclusion that killing the future-self is still suicide and that killing the clone is murder?

I'd argue that killing your clone fit the description of killing yourself (hence, suicide) more accurately than killing your future-self who opposes who "You" are in almost all ways at the moment in time when you entered the time machine (hence murder, or killing someone else who is not you).

Killing future self is murder imo. Here's my train of thought.

Think of yourself in the past. Like when you were 18-19. While I *was* that person, that is not who I am now. I'd like to think I'm much wiser and smarter now (and a little fatter), but that is not "me" I'm experiencing now, that is who I was.

So, if my old self came out of nowhere with the intent to kill me from my perspective I would be getting murdered. As in another self killed me. Likewise If I were to go into the future to kill someone (me) I wouldn't really be killing me (the 19 year old me) I would be killing the future of me, which is not the same person as me, since they have experienced much more life, etc. etc...

Therefore, henceforth, wherewithal and in conclusion, I call it murder most foul to kill the future version of you.

Exactly.

But people still argue that killing your future self is suicide. Anyone from that side want to rebuttal?

what if you went BACK in time and killed yourself at like 10, would that not be suicide because you were the same person just younger

Oh my goodness... You've got a point there. Since you would have already been your 10 year old self. I guess the question is: Does your future self end up dying if he kills your 10 year old self?

Man now you are getting into the whole time space continuum.

I personally think that no, if you kill yourself in the past you won't magically disappear.

If you killed your past self, you would not live to kill yourself. It's impossible.

So then who killed you at 10 years old? Couldn't have been you, you didn't live to do it.
