adaptive headlights issue

so ever since a seal went bad on my driver side headlights, the bulb no longer fired and i received numerous error codes on idrive.

just replaced the HID ballast and was so happy to see lights turn on, thinking that all the problems were fixed.

adaptive headlights still a problem, and i believe i need to replace the adaptive headlights ballast which also probably fried from condensation.

my question is, is this as easy as replacing the hid ballast, and after replacement, would it require coding+howmuch should i expect to pay for programming/recalibration.

also, if it'd cost more than $150, i'd like to just remove the checker function, so I don't know who can remove that for me for cheap, maybe <$40?

thanks, feel free to ask questions. i dont plan to spend more than $200 total in fixing, or i'd like to just have the errors stop bugging me on idrive

I just got the adaptive headlight malfunction today. My SA said the whole headlight needs to be replaced and will cost around $1500. Is there any other way to fix this?

I removed the VI for adaptive headlight features and disabled the variables from coding. If you don't do that or fix the lamps the problem is so annoying on the dash/idrive

Those headlights are pretty sensitive. I have changed my passenger headlight due to minor bump. There are several units inside the headlight that can cause that issue you are having. Keep in mind, in order for the AL to move left to right and up and down there are several mechanisms that is only on mountings. Check to see if any of them got out of place if can not be fixed via software adjustment.

Had a similar issue with my adaptive headlights and it ended up being codes 9cbf and 9cc0 FRM communication w/ stepper motor. It was on both left and right lamps. It was the actual FRM module itself not something within the headlamp. Not sure if this helps, but its worth mentioning. Good luck with the fix.

I had the same issue and fixed it myself. I bought a used module of the famous auction site (there were plenty used ones on there between 50 and 100 bucks. It's located on the bottom of the headlight housing (access it by taking off the inner fender lining and it had 3 star screws holding it on). A silver looking square aluminum thing. After I installed it, my headlight went the wrong direction when turning. I took it to the local shop and they re-coded it for me for 100 bucks. If you go this route, keep your old module, because my local shop wanted to use it to remove the coding out of it and install the code into my used one. They had to wait on info from somewhere to install the new coding for my car into my used one. Works like a champ now and cost me 170 bucks.

....damn it! I am worried after reading this^...I went through a heavy rain storm this past weekend, now my passenger headlamp has condensation in it and the adaptive HL is malfunctioning. My car is just out of warranty, any chance the light can be fixed or repaired under "goodwill"? Has 13k mi...rarely gets driven in the rain, if the seal was bad I would have not known.

My car is out of the CPO warranty, but there is a CPO extended warranty that covered BOTH headlights to be replaced. Would've been close to 2500.
