City of Chicago
Last December, after dark, I've hit a pot hole in downtown Chicago. Both my right tires were flat and one of the wheels were slightly damaged. I had to pay oround $520 for 2 tires and installation.
Finding out the pot holes were unmarked construction holes of the City, I filed a claim. It's been more than 10 months now. Today I received a letter from the City stating that they're offering me around $250. There's no explanation or logic behind this offer. I believe it's exactly 50% of my cost. I'm really pissed that I have to pay something because of City's ignorance. What do you think I should do? Should I just accept it or should I push further to get more? Thanks, Ucan |

wow. I had the same problem on I-90 recently when they were working on the shoulders, my tire went flat and the rim got damaged. Never filed a complaint though.
You should try to push it further but I have a feeling it will take more than 10 months again to hear back |

Exactly. Now I understand why we have 2-3 year long construction works on Kennedy Exp. If a simple complaint takes 10 months to be half-ass answered, even a simple construction should take a couple of years (the one on Kennedy is pretty big though, whatever..)
I will push it a little. If I sense like it's going to take 3-4 more months at least, I will accpet their proposal. Ucan |

Good luck with that. I've never had luck with anything like that with the City

I'm moving to the city this February from Buffalo Grove. The city is hard on the car in some ways but I will put maybe 50% of the miles on it. So overall it should be good for the car. Moving to the fulton river district.

I would push it further for sure, but if it gets to the point where it takes up a crapload of your time I'd just take what I could get. Was it a specific company contracted out to do the city's work or was it just city workers? If it was a company I'd contact the BBB. I don't know if you can do that against the city though. Make sure you kept all your receipts too.

But, originally, did you submit the damage estimate or receipt? Maybe showing that will help you out a little bit more. Good luck! |
