Could someone explain or try to explain the areas where the x-drive vs non downpipes differ? My application is a bit on the unique side. My N54 is going to sit in an E83 X3 chassis, so I have more space than a standard 3 series. That being said, being an x-drive car, is the space constraint on the transmission and front transfer case side? Sorry for the stupid question.

I've tried looking at pictures, but its hard to tell, haven't seen a good X-drive downpipes installed photo. I feel like the standard downpipes are less restrictive even though both have to neck-down to 2.5", the x-drive variant just having to do it sooner...

Do these drone at all on the highway from the interior of the car?

Thanks,

Nope, no drone at all in my opinion. The rest of the exhaust is oem so its prettyquiet unless you're flooring it

You should have a good shop fab a set of dp's that will fit perfectly. If you get dp's for eithier a 335i or 335xi, you will still need to do some fabbing anyway...

You'd be surprised how little modification is needed when it comes to exhaust "dimensions" between 3 series related chassis. Do you have specific experience here or are you just assuming fabrication will be necessary? Don't get me wrong, I've been doing this kind of thing for a long time, and sometimes certain parts just aren't going to cut it and you're better off going completely custom, but again, there is a quite a bit of "play" when working with complete exhaust systems due to motor movement.

In my case, it's going to cost a lot more to have a shop knock out custom downpipes than either modifying other N54 downpipes or just taking some heat to them depending how far off they are to the connecting pipes. Anyway, I have a buddy who is completely able to fabricate downpipes of any way, shape, or form, but I don't really want to bother him with this. I guess we'll just see how it goes.

I'll report back this winter, I was just hoping someone here would be able to go into detail with regard to the differences between the standard and x-drive downpipes and specifically the reason for the differences (ie: transfer case protrudes out in this location limiting ******* etc...

You are right, there are major similarities on the x3 and 3 series. I do not have specific experience with this swap so there is a possibility that these dp's would fit no problem. Do you have a set of stock pipes to set down there to see fitment? That would be the way to go before ordering aftermarket pipes or fabbing your own.

But yes, I am just assuming that you won't be able to just bolt the dp's on with a perfect fit.

Thanks, we're slowly returning back to normal. The gas lines are starting to become a little shorter and power is almost back 100% where I live. My whole street got power back today but i'm still on the generator since our a tree fell on our home power lines... Hopefully everything will be back to normal shortly

I believe I posted this in a different thread, but mid-December is when we'll have the first 30-40 available via express shipping. after that, we'll have another 70-80 4-6 weeks after.

Taking pre-orders? I think you also mentioned a package deal for the xi downpipes and the 7" intercooler for the holidays. I'd be game for that package.

We've got 30 sets in from yesterday's shipment, the rest are arriving in about 6 weeks. I don't imagine these will last very long!
