Procede v4 AutoTune 8.6.10 6AT MAP does 11.535@124.423MPH (Moron)

Hi Folks,

I wasn't going to post anything about yesterday, but if someone can learn from my mistakes, I guess its worth it. I'm completely embarrassed and will keep this post short (won't post the video) since I hope this thread dies an early death.

Here's a quick list of my runs ...

Run #1 - 11.614@123.840 MPH (60' --> 1.676, 1/8 Mile --> 7.513@95.055 MPH, 81 degF)
Run #2 - 11.615@124.114 MPH (60' --> 1.705, 1/8 Mile --> 7.525@95.917 MPH, 80 degF)
Run #3 - 11.535@124.423 MPH (60' --> 1.641, 1/8 Mile --> 7.457@96.009 MPH, 80 degF)
Run #4 - 11.618@123.313 MPH (60' --> 1.629, 1/8 Mile --> 7.502@95.160 MPH, 79 degF)
Run #5 - 11.570@123.349 MPH (60' --> 1.642, 1/8 Mile --> 7.466@95.660 MPH, 72 degF)

Here's the obligatory timeslip:

After going through the datalogs, I learned a few things:
- Don't just look at 3rd and 4th gear logs ... look at all the gears
- I was launching the car between 79-81% throttle
- Through 1st and 2nd gears, I stayed at around 80% throttle
- During 3rd gear, throttle position ramped up from 80% to 100%
- During 4th gear, throttle position stayed at 100%
- The logs show that I am very consistent in this behavior. All my runs logged the same throttle behavior

So, that begs the question, why would I want to be at 80% throttle? ... I DON'T!!!!!
- I launch the car by resting my foot on the downshift button
- The acceleration of 1st and 2nd gear pulls me off the throttle by a slight bit
- Procede is mapping throttle position linearly
- After leaving the track we did some testing ... That little bit of slack costs me 3-4 PSI of boost and ramp up time in two of my gears

When I looked at my logs from my last trip (using pre-beta autotuning firmware), this was not a problem. I was pretty consistent at 100% throttle in all the gears. Yesterday I did not adjust to the lack of boost taper and the improved wastegate responsiveness. Mea Culpa!

So I'm faster with some "non-optimal" throttle application, I'm pretty sure there is more goodness left in the car.

Lesson of the Day (for StartupJunkie):
- To ensure WOT don't rest on the downshift button, push past it and lock it down

Thanks for reading ... please forget that I'm an idiot.

I'm not going to update my signature or post it in dragtimes ... I do not think it is representative of what can really be done. I'll update both when I think I've given it a "real effort".

Lol......curse of us AT guys is that damn downshift button.

Some time ago someone tried attaching a wooden block underneath the gas pedal that was at the same height as the downshift button.

That way you can press all the way down and not worry about unintended downshifting.

Great times nonetheless! I noticed I sometimes do the same thing in some of my data logs.. ha ha

Is your sedan an XI? What tires are you using as well? The launch control for AT cars really is a sweet thing with appropriate traction!

If any other local 6AT wants to run that fast, just PM me and you can borrow my slicks. All you need to bring are full stg 3 mods, race gas, a meth kit and a line lock (for a proper burn out). There is really not any more to it. Just brake torque at the launch and just time your upshifts reasonably well. Oh yeah, staying full on the throttle helps too. lol jk jk Startupjunkie

As far as timing is concerned, what are the optimal shift points now that boost taper is a thing of the past? =)

I don't have any practice with an AT car but, I always move my seat FORWARD when I go to the strip. That ensures I have the pedal all the way down when it needs to be

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your kind comments ... my ego is still pretty bruised.

pentaxis - I'm a RWD 6AT. I'm also using the standard Kosei K-1 rims with Hoosier Drag Radials. As far as shift points ... shift as close to 6500 RPM, but not past it. I'm pretty consistent and shifting at 6400 RPM with nearly all my runs. Also note, that actual RPM vs. tach may be slightly off. So datalog holding a certain tach RPM and then look at what the datalog says it is.

blubyu - I'm running race gas with meth (80% meth, 20% water mixture).

Ilma - I did some more freeway testing and kicking down is not a problem if you're at the right RPMs. I found that 2nd gear won't kick down if above 4250rpm. 3rd gear won't kick down above 4500 rpm. 4th gear won't kick down above 5000rpm.

Sniz - Yeah, I'll be honest it hard to keep it floored all the time. Most of it has to do with seat position. I need to move my seat up so I'm not using my ankles to get WOT. The difference from the kick down button to 80% WOT is less than a 1/4" ... its not that much, but it make a massive difference.

hun77777 - Yes, I took out the passenger seat. I should probably note that I weigh 225lbs. So compared to some of you skinny folks, that may neutralize my sub-optimal weight displacement. :P

Let me know if anyone has any other questions.
