Through searching here, I found out that what BMW calls: "Injector Pressure Wash Service" could help with few things with the engine.

40K mile car, gets low city mpg (low 20's) where it should be mid to high 20's with my peers with the same car.

My dealer notified me that this is around $160 to get done. What exactly do they do for this? I saw somewhere that this could be bad for engine oil and I should get an oil change soon after this, is this true?

Yea, its a 328i gas.

Down here in Florida, with straight, flat, smooth roads, it should do way more. I have 3-4 closest friends/relatives that has the same car with same engine that averages 25 and up easily for same routes of driving. I asked about his in a different thread (which I cannot find right now).

I posted this thread mainly in order to get more information about "Fuel Pressure Wash Service".

It involves removing the fuel injectors and cleaning them with something akin to parts/brake cleaner and compressed air to clear the debris out.

There are many variables, they could be heading to work along a different route, or at a different time of day when there is less traffic, they may not be as aggressive of driver, your tire pressure may be low, your parking brake may be sticking, etc.

I understand. But you just have to believe me that 22 is too low on these conditions.

Fuel Cleaner Service: Can anyone give me more information about this? Anyone felt any differences from doing this? Can this be bad in the long run? (The chemicals they use could be bad for the engine, or oil?)

Why not run a couple of bottles or Techron instead?

different country and different conditions but same city driving - 22.6mpg for me. Mine is the 325 but the 3 litre engine.

For me: 2006 330i, almost no highway driving = 19.5 MPG average

Did this with BMW recommended additive, Techron one (which is basically same as BMW's), Lucus one.

This is a CPO car, which I believe was driven around town with bad gas in it for first 40K miles.

Yes, BMW additive is Techron with a BMW label on it.
I've never used Lucas products but I've read that their fuel additives aren't very effective. I don't know if that's true or not but since Techron's the best, I don't see a reason to use anything else.

Auto.

On several highway trips, I was able to get 31. Soon as it's traffic, here comes low 20's.

The reason is I am wondering if the adaptations could be cleared, it could be shifting aggressively and may need to be reset to "learn your environmental driving style."

I did the transmission adaptation thing with the key in and gas pedal down. Are there any others I can do?

How did you do that procedure? (what steps)

Well the well known procedure was:
1. Turn cars electronics on-push start button once or twice without turning the actual engine on.

2.Hold the gas pedal to the floor for 25 seconds
3. Most times you will hear the gearbox resetting itself and hear some "noise" coming from your car but not always noticable so dont worry if you dont
4 Now start your car and enjoy the gearbox reset to its factor settings and open for all new learning. The shifts are silky smooth again and shift points shift faster-basically it totally makes your tranny perform better.

But I also tried:
1) hit start button once to turn on power (Don't start the engine)
2) then press the accelerator down to the floor for 5 sec
3) then hit start button once to turn off power
4) then remove foot from accelerator
5) then wait for 2 minutes
4) then start the engine like normal and try it out!

Your car is fine - that's exactly the mileage you should get. (I am assuming that you reset the OBC at each fill-up and have checked it against the actual fuel consumption over several tanks.)
