Chaps, what's the M135i like on juice? After all the reviews recently, I really fancy one now.

its very good for a petrol car of this peformance, but not as good as the 330d. Would say expect high 20s on average.
15's on full reheat. mid-30's driving gently. Some guys have got low 40's on mway runs!

So far.

Should really do a Palmnuts style writeup, but the headlines are:
  • More refined than the MINI (a given).
  • More refined than the 135i Coupe.
  • Adaptive ride and winter tyres is very good. Sport firms it up nicely.
  • Eco-pro is horrible.
  • Lane departure warning is very subtle.
  • Reversing camera gets too dirty too quickly (poor placement).
  • Lines and PDC overlay on the camera works well though.
  • More room than the E87 in the back (or so I'm told).
  • Engine note much more refined than the 135i Coupe (less tinny at high revs).
  • Auto-start stop isn't delayed for long enough before stopping. It works fine, but when you are momentarily stopping in traffic it'll cut the engine, whereas in a manual you'd keep the clutch depressed to keep the engine running for the few seconds you are stopped. For this reason it's going to be regularly turned off.
  • Black panel display is good with all the extra info.
  • Scrolly wheels on the steering wheel work nicely in combination with black panel display.
  • Speedlimit display generally works. Though I did pull onto the drive and see it say 70mph!
  • People tend to take a second look when they hear it start up. Not many 1 series make a noise like this. Something that was the same in the 135i Coupe.
  • They removed the "all" button from the climate control. OCD owners have to adjust both knobs again.

Did you buy from Cotswold?, had test drive there today and they mentioned a silver one.

Quick review of test drive today:

EB, manual, 5 door, 3250ish miles on it. Run flats fitted.

Like:
Seating position, lower than expected (i'm 6'5" so need all the room can get)
Steering wheel, comes out further than expected, be great on track because of this.
Angle of idrive towards driver
Feel/weight of steering (on run flats)
Ride (on run flats, no adaptive fitted), way better than expected
Electric seats so no wanting to be between notches
Exhaust note, about right.

Dislike
Look of the front is challenging, dare say would grow but certainly not pretty. Better in silver/eb than darker colours IMO
Wind noise from drivers door, hopefully just this car, would drive me mad.
Cruise and volume controls swapped sides from E46/Mini and no stalk like E9*

Summary
Need to try an auto and see what figures they'll come up with, might be enough to tempt me out of E91 and E46 M3, could then get a van which would be more useful than estate/trailer.

I think the auto really suits the car. The manual is good, but the refinement means that it doesn't feel as quick as the cars disappearing in the rear-view mirror would suggest. The relentless surge of the auto, and the way it drops a cog so quickly is more fun I think.
