Guys with downpipes: Will you take the DP's out
for your covered service? I'm tempted to get some downpipes, but don't want to lose the warranty too, since I'm sure they can figure out to look for a piggyback if they see the dp's.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Just give a tip to the guy at dealership (if he notice something) and everything will be fine.

That's part of the problem though since you need to run o2 sims with extra wiring in the ECU compartment. Good luck trying to convince the stealership that they are only o2 simulators and not some kind of tune.

It would require an unlikely combination of circumstances to make me remove my high flow catted dps for covered service. One being a sudden desire to sell the car and revert it to stock and sell the aftermarket parts.
Another being forced to use a service dept. that was hostile to aftermarket parts. First off it's a 3-4 hour job and about that many bills to pay for a dp swap. Each way. What exactly would that save you? It would have to be a several thousand dollar repair and the service dept. would have to be pointing fingers at the dps as the culprit. Premature turbo failure is all I can think of. I think most "problems" people are worrying about/anticipating are still imaginary what ifs.

This is why I've said in the past about having 02 sensors at the source and not in the ECU compartment, but nobody understood my methodology.

Well I have two questions.
1.) If you take all the mods off except DP's and the O2 sims, and it is only for service and not a problem then why would they even look into your ECU? 2.) What happens if you change your own oil instead of going in for the dealer to do it? Will they void the warranty? Is there no way to reset the oil change count in the computer of the car? Just curious. Thanks |

My question is this; Every work order I've gotten from BMW has included the techs notes, i.e. troubleshot this, replaced that, observed this, etc. Whats to say a tech notes the fact that the primary cats are missing? That ends up on the proverbial "permanent record" no? |

2) Services include more then just oil change, how do you account for that? |

This is what I'm talking about, and for some reason people think that I don't know this.
I've already taken my my car in for service and this is what was told to me, "Wow, you've done a lot to that car." Yep. The techs knew that my primary cats were gone. They knew that I had high flow cats in the place of the secondaries. They knew that I had the AA IC. The question is--Did they care? It depends on your dealer. I will gaurantee that my dealer would be more understanding if I have DPs rather than a piggyback. This was the point that I tried to make in the other thread, and peoplekept bringing up "but, the DPs violate the emissions bla bla." People just didn't get it. How about this? Which is worse? Killing somebody (piggyback) or getting caught with a fake ID? (DPs). They're both illegal, but you might get off with a warning with the fake ID. Quote:

AMEN!!! I said the same thing, but as long as people keep buying these things no company cares to make the mechanical sims! This is rediculous as every other car has mechanical sims!

I was actually thinking electrical sims that plug into the 02 sensor plugs, but whatever works.

All it takes is a dub. The guy I dealt with was so happy he offered to give me his employee discount if I needed to buy something at their parts counter.

It's probably just as easy to make on a BMW as on other cars, unless of course they are monitoring anything specific so that the O2's can't be ignored. I'd look it up. |

Terry's o2 sims deal with restricting the electrical circuit inside the ecu so why can't this be done where the o2 sensor male plugs into the female plug? The electrical circuit can be restricted at the source instead of at the ecu.
