Clubman ... Hmm !

well after the deer incident, my car is now in the bodyshop.

as a courtsey car they have given me a Mini Clubman, dont get me wrong i am glad that it wasnt a Ford Ka(ck) or something similar, as the clubman is a lot better than one of those or something equivalent .... BUT ( moan coming up ) .... This mini is absolutely crap ! The external build quality isnt that what i had expected from a BMW product, a good example of this is i keep checking to see if the bonet is actually fastened and not on its saftey catch ! The car has 'Cooper' on the back , but is about as lifeless as roadkill. The rear doors remind me of something del and rodders would drive, but to be fair the easy open doors would of helped them with all their dodgy gear, if they make some kinda modern remake this clubman would be the ideal vehicle ! The inside is just as poorly designed with the crappy plastic interior and a genious small 3rd side door that if anyone tried to get in the back via this they would trip over the drivers seat belt that is attached to the top of the small door! ...

overall i think its a terrible car , i was expecting it to be much better, but it just isnt !! The biggest design floor is its basically a Mini 'Estate,' what !!? did i miss something there ... and to top it all off theyre not exaclty cheap

BMW ... im very dissapointed

hehe with the fact they are incredibly ugly! I don't quite understand who they will sell them too, the same with the X6, two very different cars but both just make me think why o why!

Mini - small hatch
1er - small hatch / coupe / convertible(which is actually as big as an older 3!)
3er - medium saloon / touring / coupe / convertible
5er - big saloon / touring
6er - luxo coupe / convertible
7er - executive saloon
Z4 - Sports Roadster / Coupe

Those I get the point of!

Mini Clubman - Why o why??
X3 - leave 4x4s to Land Rover
X5 - See above
X6 - WTF!

mate ive had two mini's now (one clubman) and one basic 320i saloon.

I will NEVER take the 320i loan car again, it was not pleasant. the Mini on the other had is stylish inside and out and drove nice for a slow car.

Yes its a big come down to have either coming from a loaded 335d, but next time mine goes in for work, ill be pleased if i get mini.

I like the Ka. It is a hoot to hussle along in. Handling is great fun.

Cheaper to buy than a brake service for Carlos. (And will last longer too).

carlos im not saying it was a bad hire car, it is a dam decent loan car. I apreciate its not my 335D, i wasnt comparing it to it ! I was complaining about the quality and design etc.

THIS ISNT A MINI CLUBMAN vs 335D COUPE DISSCUSSION

From what I've seen of the Minis they are very plastic fantastic lol! That is the one thing I HATE about my MX5 (not quite as bad as the Mini IMHO though) which will be changing on the inside as well as under the bonnet for that reason!

One thing I hate about the Mini, Mini it isn't exactely so!

I have a 1950 series 1 landrover converted with a series IIa gearbox and 3.5ltr rover V8 and a big roll cage. Looks like a classic landrover goes like a metro with a V8 (same wheelbase, turning circle and weight) stops great too with its unassisted 10" or are they 9"? drum brakes (sarcasm).

Don't tar everything with the same brush just because discoveries are poo!

I get the feeling the clubman is a car for the MINI fans, rather than a car to appeal for its increased practicality! Its not even 'mini'-sized...

We have an X5 4.6is, and out of our history of 4x4's it is the best at doing its job!
BMW never had the intention to beat Land Rover at its own game with the X5. Instead they saw the trend of people living in towns wanting to drive big 'chunky' cars that made them feel safe.

This is why the Range Rover used to sell so well; there was no premium alternative! And therefore why the X5 sold like a biatch! A 4x4 that drives like a saloon was a Godsend!
Its the same with the X6, they have raised the level for on road dynamics again and although it lacks a certain purpose it will furthermore sell like a biatch!
Its all about knowing the audience!

I have to agree with you on the X3 though, wtf indeed

I've had an X5 3.0d Sport for a week - I'm not a 4x4 fan but I just loved it. If it was available cheap enough on my car scheme i'd have one.

I've seen the X6 twice, the first time I thought WTF?!

The second time I seen one I thought hmm and its huge against other cars.
