Annoying high piched beeping

Hi,

Anyone else have an intermittent high pitched beep? Within the cabin, somewhere (hard to determine) comes a "whine" that can last between 2 and 10 seconds, go away for a few then come back.

It's almost like an electronic beep, rather i think than a mechanical one. Having said that it seemed the other day to be very much asociated when i was turning left! Only seems to happen at speeds under 40MPH, or perhaps thats only when it can be heard over road noise.

It's driving me nuts! Any ideas?

It's not the hourly beep thingy on idrive.

Yeh I get this too. It's very faint and can be heard when the
music is off. There was a topic abt this in the main forum a while back but nothing conclusive as to wat it actually is. Some people said it might have been the Bluetooth trying to pair up etc then ppl were saying they didn't have Bluetooth specified etc etc. Anyway hope someone this side can shed some light on it?! Only tend to hear it at standstill or under 5mph tho? Perhaps roadnoise drowns it out at higher speeds?Doesn't bother me as I always tend to have music on but wud be nice to know once and for all! Might be German morse code!

I have the exact same thing but you can only hear when its quiet so when at a delaers they dont hear a thing but its really annoying me and only started since I had a software upgrade on the car.

Seems to be coming from under the glove compartment.

Seems to be a widespread problem!

Body Control Unit perhaps? Has to be something along those lines esp. if it has worsened since a software upgrade.

Are any dealers up for a challenge?

I thought it was coming from the speakers...

I haven't had any updates since the car was new so that confuses matters more?!

Ah that'd be the annoying hourly chime. What a crap "feature" that is!

Na, not that.

Also seems really random. Girlfriend thinks it comes from under glovebox. Also my car has no updates either.

Could this be the sound system picking up electrical interference from your phone?

I get this if I leave my phone next to any speaker system at home. Usually a series of accelerating 'beeps'

Have had it occasionally in the car as well.

I dont believe it is phone interference as the sound is a timed beep/noise.

Sounds like something is switching on and off at a constant rate.

I was going to take it to my local dealer but it’s not always easy to hear and I’m sure it only starts at night so could be something to do with head lights or the quieter roads make it sound louder.

is it not that limit feature when you set it to a certain speed for a bleep to come on when you hit it?

That's exactly what phone interference sounds like. Usually quite loud and distinctive though:

Example here:

Anything else that could be interfering electrically?

Na, that's not it at all.

It's more of a whistle. About the pitch of them truck reverse beeps.

And no, it's not the speed warning thingy because it happens at low speeds.

Thanks for the replies guys, nice to see i'm not the only one.

Is the noise similar to that of the parking sensors?

I suppose, but a higher pitch, quieter and more of a whine. It's one of those that's gonna run and run. I can just tell.

I just bought a brand new 128i w/ sports package. I seem to be hearing the same thing. It occurs only when things are dead quiet (such as in the garage at night time when only the crickets are chirping) and exactly after i press the unlock button on my new gen key. no idea what the noise is... would like to at least know what it is.

My car is in the garage next week so we'll see if they can find the cause. I doubt it though
