Who actually remaps the 330d LCI?

My mate wants to go on a petrolheadnirvana.com holidays (has anyone done one?) and it got me thinking - if I want to keep up with his 335i I'm going to need a remap!

Thing is, the only place I know of that gets a good write up is P-torque but they aren't local to me.

Do any of the good companies do a remap for the 245 denzil yet? I know DMS were looking into it, but ASAIK, they still don't. I live in the London area.

Cheers

We can tune these no problem at all.

Power is increased to approx 290+hp. If you can afford the time its worth travelling to get the job done well.

We released this software before any other UK tuner, and therefore have tuned and tested more than any other tuner.

If we are far too far away, then I'm not sure who else does these at the moment...

Judging by your rough locations (London / West Midlands) won't it take you about 2 hours tops to travel, I wouldn't have said that's 'far to far' to travel for a tuner you're comfortable with. Hey, it used to take me nearly an hour to commute 8 miles into Manchester when I made that journey - travel at the right times and you'll have some fun getting used to the new power on your way home...

I should point out that I've got nowt to do with p-torque, never used then, don't know them from Adam, but it you like what they do then don't let the journey put you off.

It's a fair point, and to be honest, my first choice would be P-torque and I know they are well regarded from when I had my Seat.

I'm just have a niggle that the map will end up being wiped by the dealer or somwething and I'll have to travel back up.... I fancy having some local after sales support.

But, I'll think about it

Question - is this a 'chip out' job, or is it done over the diagnostic port?

Hi!

The ECU is flashed directly. This is as subtle as OBD tuning when done correctly.

I can show you the ECU location and what it looks like before and after tuning for your piece of mind.

BanziBarn, I think you should do it so you can be the 330d LCI guinea pig.

P-torque:
1. People (not necessarily your customers) who have had remaps and then had software/firmware related dead engine problems... what has gone wrong? Are there any risks?
2. Is peak power on a 330d still at 4000rpm? Does the shape of the torque curve change off standard?
3. For cars under warranty, what happens when you take it to BMW to be serviced?
4. After the remap, is the on-board computer fuel consumption display still accurate or does it become inaccurate?

Excellent questions.

No guinea pig needed, the software is developed and tested both on the track and dyno. Over 30 LCI's tuned now both here and for tuners we develop software for abroad.

I will try to help with your questions:

1) Not sure what this is related to, we haven't had any issues at all with any ECU software or hardware in 7 years. Ahh, just re-read your question, we recover ECU's damaged by so called 'tuners'. Lack of knowledge is at fault here

2) Peak power remains very similar, whilst holding stronger throughout the rev-range, this is achieved with correct adjusment of the injector open timing.

3) 95% of the cars we tune are still under warranty. Dealer diagnostics cannot see the upgrade on the LCI models.

4) Trip computer remains accurate. Plug in boxes can upset trip computers, mapping the ECU correctly is as if the car came out of the factory like it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions

Interesting you say the dealers can't see the upgrade.

Don't maps have version numbers? Sometimes manufacturers release their own updates and must be able to tell if a car already has the update. What would their system say my car had if it was remapped? Do your maps mimic the OEM map version or something?

I had a look on your site for prices but couldn't see them, what are we looking at here please?

Cheers

Bluefin (superchips) do it as well. Think they're a bit on the expensive side at something like £480, but I had a Bluefin remap on my 330d and have been very pleased with it.

Output of the LCI goes up to something like 315bhp mapped which is very impressive.

I've had a look on the Bluefin website and it only lists the old 330d engine?

Yeah just looked myself, and it's not listed anymore for some reason?!

Used to be on there - and mapped I think the exact figure was 317bhp.

Might be worth giving them a call.

P-Torque did my pre LCi 330d two weeks ago. Been driving it sedately and definately better MPG. Popped in some Total Excellium fuel and it's now soooo quiet. Spins the wheels in 4th and needs to be driven with respect.

Mine is in the Stealers tomorrow for a a problem with a thermostat sticking open, lets see if they find it!

If a dealer really wanted to investigate the latest ECU versions, then they could see the ECU has been altered, but this is not going to happen during servicing etc.

In fact, in the last 5 months I have had customers come in already running our software after buying their BMW's through the approved used scheme

That's funny. It must make the cars very easy to sell!!

But it must also be dissapointing when you tell the customer "that's as fast as it's going to go mate!".

What's your forum price on this map please?

Do you have any before and after torque/power curves for the same vehicle you can post up?

Also do you have any part load power curves, eg at 50% throttle?

That's a good price.

What was the increase on your insurance if you don't mind me asking?

I would say an extra £150 a year but all insurance has gone up a lot!!

Why not try using comparethemarket.com or others - you can now add on mods and see what effect it has on price. Of course you still may do better than this but it gives you an idea.
