Adaptive Headlights Q
Using the adapative headlight function this morning, I think its the first time I've actually used them, a couple of issues - driving on a motor way (concrete divide) I was getting flashed by trucks (the beems on the top of the truck), the lights would instantly go to dim, assuming that the flash from the trucks lights were higher up than cars. Biggest issue was that it didn't seem to sense car rear lights in front of me too well, in that they would go full lights when cars ahead of me were only approx 75 yards or so in front, at that I just turned the function off, seemed just way to fiddly
Anyone else any feedback? |

I think you're talking about High Beam Assist rather than adaptive headlights. I find mine quite good, just a little slow to turn main beam back on again after it's dipped. Perhaps your sensors need a clean? One's in the rear view mirror and the other's on the front of the mirror housing, inside the car.

I sometimes get flashed just because of the dipped xenons being too bright let alone being on main.
The main beam assist is not infallible. The sensor is behind the rear view mirror and if the oncoming traffic headlights are hidden behind a concrete barrier than its unlikely they would dip. I also find oncoming road sign reflection can cause them to dip too soon. A PITA when you are mid corner and the chevron reflection causes this to happen. As for reacting to tail lights of cars ahead mine reacts fine. Allows you to close down the car with main beams but dip when you get too close, I would guess a half mile or so. As its name suggest its an 'assist' not a foolproof replacement to the drivers decision. |
