Question ***In search of Body shop for CUSTOM work***

Hey guys-

Yet another "Looking for body shop thread." However- I have had an extremely difficult time hunting down a body shop here in NYC willing to do any custom work. Right now- I want my rear spoiler-molded into my trunk so that it is seamless. Many who have seen/ and heard what I want- have declined and said they fear the mold cracking over time...

What am I suppose to do? I know 2 different friends one in Florida- and one in CA who have had this spoiler molded into their trunks and body shop gave them no problem.

Can anyone recommend me or point me in the direction of some high quality skilled painters here willing to delve into some custom body work and molding.

Thanks in advance guy's! Really appreciate it.

Unfortunately I went to MAC- They were my first stop, as I thought they would be my best bet....but unfortunately they declined the job- saying that they couldn't guarantee the mold...and it may crack over time.

That's funny....

Had been there and spoke to JOE about the work-and he didn't want to get involved with it. Said they couldn't guarantee it- and also said they' are extremely busy right now...

^ it actually require a lot of work to get it done right. A little pressure from leaning on it or a bump can easily push the mold out. You might not see the crack but you can definitely see in from the paint at times.

Good luck with your quest

As I have heard...

Have heard "closing of your trunk" will cause stress or cracking. Have heard "vibrations from the road" will cause stress or cracking.... However..

this seems all to be repairable if it happens no?

Absolutely-which is why I am trying to find the right guys for it. My friend in FL has got his trunk mold done for over a year or more now-no signs of cracking or anything.

Just a little clarification-
When we spoke I did not decline the job, but I did bring up the possibility of it cracking over time. We stand by all of our work 100%- so we are always up front with our thoughts and any issues that may come into play later. We've done 1000's of moldings and know what to look out for when trying to join two different materials (ie- steel and fiber or poly).
Good luck with your project!

Thanks again! I appreciate you taking the time out to show me around your shop and facility. Top notch would be an understatement in that category. All high end cars, great machines, all around great looking place. Even copped some T-shirts for free too that Joe hooked me up with!
