Car and Driver has named their 2012 10Best Cars List and as always, the BMW 3 Series and M3 makes an appearance.

Per C/D: The competition should have figured out a way to beat the BMW 3-series by now. It’s not for lack of trying: Every so often, another carmaker will pitch a worthy competitor into the mix, but none has been able to knock the 3-series from its pedestal or even maintain its consistent brilliance. After 21 consecutive years on the 10Best list, BMW continues to evolve the 3-series toward some platonic ideal of sportiness.

You don’t notice the seats, the steering, the suspension, or the brakes because everything feels natural. Everything feels right. And how has no other automaker matched the silkiness of BMW’s inline-six engines?

Don’t forget the M3, either, which remains magnificent in the twilight of a celebrated life, thanks largely to that lusty 414-hp, 8300-rpm V-8. The 3-series sedan is on hiatus until a new model drops in February. In other words, even as the entire current 3-series lineup is on the way out the door, it still roasts the competition. The biggest threat to its dominance is not from another carmaker but from BMW itself. An increased focus on gizmology has robbed a couple of recently introduced BMWs of the athletic, connected feeling that made the old Ultimate Driving Machine tag line ring so true. Here’s to hoping BMW doesn’t screw up the best one.

What else is new? I mean you don't even have to mention the 3-Series, you assume it's there and move on to the other 9 cars. Just from initial reviews, you can already put down the F30 3-Series top 10 for the 22nd consecutive time. LOL

I read the issue and agree.

The car is wonderful.

I don't even think of the Pending f30 nor any other car.

I really like this car and plan on driving it for while.

Im happy, no mods, no turbo. Just the factory sport, 6 MT speeds and the joy of the suspension and the dynamaics of this car.

The car is wonderful!

I'll want an F30 one day, but until then, I am happy.

No lease, no lci, no mods, no turbo, no loan, no CPO, no warranty, no problems........52k miles.

I agree with you. Sometimes people say to me, why a 325, not a 330 or 335? I tell them I'm not looking for the performance enthusiasts are looking for, I want a car, all stock to just drive nothing more nothing less.

Correction, if you're old school, you say 3 Series and Accord, and move on to the other 8. Taking them out is about as likely as the Kennedys moving their compound to New Jersey. If you're newer school you say 3 Series, Accord, and Fit, and go on to the next 7.

Haha forgot about the Accord and how many times it's been on there 23 times! (don't know how many consecutive times though..) Still pretty impressive.

Agree 100 percent. The Accord has been on the list for longer than the 3 series. Still.. it shouldn't be taken for granted... A shame the 1M couldn't displace the Golf/Gti... Really kinda crazy to not have it in the ten best... I mean really... toss out either the Focus or the Fit..

Unfortunately... the 10 best seems to have Categories now... old school folks will remember when it was simply the ten best cars... not the Ten best model lines..

Not like it really matters but anyone reading the comments on the C&D page? Why are people actually surprised that the 3-Series is on it? Look, the A4 and C-Class are good cars but the best in class is still the 3. Anyone on here think otherwise? Not trying to start anything but just wondering if we really are fanboys or if it's the truth.

I saw those comments too. I guess it is the first time those people have seen the annual list of best cars.

I just bought my first BMW, an E92 M3, and I couldn't agree more! This car is phenomenal...except for the gas mileage, but that's probably 70% my right foot's fault

I had to lease it for the time being to be able to afford it, but I hope to buy it out when the lease is over. I am still modding it though, but very basic mods (delete chrome parts, aftermarket muffler, BMW perf parts). You can't really improve upon a 3er much, let alone any BMW. They really are as close to perfect as it gets in their classes, compared to every other manufacturer out there.

That red E30 is just like my 325is I had! I needed therapy for two years after parting with it. I put 150,000 trouble-free miles on it before parting with it.

E30 = greatest BMW of all time M's are going for the mid $30k's and most likely going up.

The E30 is a truly amazing car. I have a 1987 with an S52 swap (Motor from the E36 M3 US model). The E30 M3 won't get any cheaper. They become harder and harder to find in good shape, too many get neglected.

I'd still love to get my hands on an E92 M3 though... want that V8!
