Shit, the guy in the F30 General forum has just posted this:
"The best news by far, however, was the news of the diesel. YES, a diesel is coming. It will not be a 35, but rather a 30. He indicated it would be based off the N47 engine- approximately 2 litres and will come in as a 330d- placed between the 28 and the 35. Given this information, I'm speculating a triple, or at least twin turbo 4 with somewhere from 225-260 hp and 375-450 ft-lbs of torque. He indicated that mated to the 8 speed auto, it would be pushing 50 MPGs!!!! At this point all the negatives almost went completely out the window, because this news is awesome." http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=657021 Nooo its not awesome!! The N57 is what makes diesel the new petrol!! To lose the sound, feel and natural balance of the straight six would be criminal!!!!!!!! I hope this guy is bullshitting I really I do. I saw his title and was about to cancel my 328i :L . I'd take an N57 over the N20 anyday. Uses less fuel than a 1.4 litre Fiat. Faster than a Porche Boxter. The BMW 330d. EDIT: GOOD NEWS!!! Now the F31 330d has been announced, Southlight says the 30d will remain as an N57! Phewww!! I can get 52mpg at speed limits (70mph ish) with a steady foot in my older, less refined, less clean 245ps 520NM 30d so don't give me any "4 pot will be good for more MPG bullshit" . LOL! It is the 258ps 560NM unit that will be implemented and it will probably conform with EU6 regulations which targets NoX emissions, if not, it will likely be an optional extra like the F10/F11.

We only get the M57 over here not the N57 unfortunately. As long as BMW gives North America either an F31 Diesel (My preferred choice but highly unlikely) or an X3 30d (much more likely) that is reasonably quick and gets great mileage I'll be a happy camper. I love my 335d but would really like something with more utility that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, like the X5 35d does.

I got the 335d because it was the only diesel sedan that BMW made. It was nicer than the E350 Blutec for road feel and driving experience, and Audi had no TDI sedan and VW didn't have the Passat yet and their Jettas were having issues with their Bosch CP4.1 HPFPs eating themselves. Would I consider an F30 330d based on the N47 to replace my 12-year old Jetta TDI? Certainly. I would really consider the X3 30d if that came over as well. Yes, the 335d's 6 is very smooth, but I would be willing to forego a bit of smoothness to have a diesel SUV again (had a 2.8L straight-4 VM motori powered Jeep Liberty, so I'm familiar with straight-4 vibration levels) and the X3 or something like a Q5 or Tiguan would be perfect. 123: On the positive side of things, that makes it seem more clear that the 35d (or even a 40d) could become the top of the line 3-series (in Europe, anyway). Cheers D.

Bluh, I was kind of hoping for a 320d mated with a 6MT.

An n47 powered 3 series should hopefully produce few enough nitrogen emissions that it wouldn't need urea injection. Furthermore, that engine was producing 200 horsepower in the 123d almost six years ago, so an updated modern version should be able to hit 240 horsepower.
Add to that the astronomic fuel efficiency of the diesel four banger and you have a winning combination. Just please please bring it stateside and price it reasonably between the 328 and 335. |

BMW M Performance Parts website is officially up now. Looks like 320d got factory performance kit:
BMW M Performance Power Kit* BMW M Performance Power Kits further increase the already impressive performance of your BMW 3 Series thanks to perfectly matched software and hardware components. Peak torque varies according to the selected gear. The performance increase, brought about engine data modifications, introduces new thermal challenges. This is why, as well as a new control unit that processes the data, there is a larger intercooler. And only with the Original BMW M Performance Power Kit does the BMW warranty remain unaffected. For 320d. Increase in performance from 135 kW to 147 kW, increase in torque from 380 Nm to 420 Nm, new engine control unit, modified engine electronics, more powerful intercooler. Installation duration on request Available for 3 Series Sedan from 01/12 * Your local BMW Service Partner will be pleased |

Here you go http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...ies_sedan.html - Click on Drivetrain then Power kit for 320d
Also I noticed they have performance kit for 335i. Unfortunately nothing for 335d what a shame... Quote:

I'd welcome a powerful 2 liter and 50mpg. I love me 335d, but for 15 mpg improvement and probably similar performance, I'd trade up to that. Well...ok, trade "in" for that.
The 335d is still the best car I've ever owned....hands down. |

Edit: Well, it looks like only the Porsche Cayenne Turbo is available with the air suspension now, and it isnt available in the US with a diesel (though I read somewhere that Porsche is putting out a diesel Cayenne soon, prob not coming across the pond). So I am not so sure about the eg's rough terrain capability any more.

Thanks. Another thing I noticed at the international site was that the 530d had a higher torque rating on the auto than the manual trans. Any idea why?

I think that the 330d would be my next choice if they brought that to us. I dont need the huge amount of power all the time, and would love even better economy.
