Are we going to see the US commercials or are we gonna see Tim Hortons and Stephen Harper!?????

Here in Canada they substitute the Canadian channel (with Canadian commercials), even if you tune into an American channel for big broadcasts like the Superbowl. Last year, the fix was to watch on an American HD channel -- this year Rogers are having 'problems' with HD Fox, which leave us with a scrambled channel. I am guessing that if we want to see these commercials, we'll have to hope that they are posted on the internet...

UPDATE: Rogers was able to get FoxHD running again if you want to see the commercials (and the game) live; otherwise they will be posted on www.myspace.com/superbowlads

I tried all of the various channels, 531, 107, 108, 535, etc. etc. and its all the damn CTV feed, with pathetic commericals for Nissan Canada and Corner Gas. There is no creativity in Canadian advertising.

Blame the CRTC....they have Canadian Content rules.... We are lucky we are not getting half the commercials in French.

canadian commercials just put their product out there. no creativity or trying to get you to laugh.

With Shaw here, if you watch the DETROIT HD FOX channel you will get all the US SUPERBOWL commercials. Pepsi one was pretty funny...

The Expressvu Fox HD channel (818) had the US commercials. There was nothing great.

It has nothing to do with the CRTC. It's the local stations wanting to generate their own ad revenue.

My friend, the CRTC has its tenticles everywhere. The CRTC allows signal substitution which means a Canadian broadcaster has the right to re-broadcast an American feed and put in DUMB ASS Beaver commercials or some other silly thing about hockey.

Actually, I believe that they do -- the CRTC requires channel substitution when the same programming is shown on both Canadian and American channels -- this allows Canadian channels to get greater ad coverage (and at least in theory) more revenue. About the only time I ever care about this is Superbowl, because the huge advertising costs often make for a few interesting ads, and the Canadian alternatives are pretty lame...

I watched the game on FOX Rochester (cable not sat) and I had the American comercials. Nothing remarkable this year ad wise.
