Purchased a CPO 2007 328i with only a few extras (Satellite, Power seats). Pretty basic. So I was interested in: 1) going with bigger rims (I like the 189's), 2) drop the suspension about an inch, and 3) switch out the headlights with xenons/halos.

Recommendations?

Other mods?

Definitely an aftermarket exhaust to make it sound like a real BMW..

I would actually go against an aftermarket exhaust...feel like if you wanted a growl, you should have gotten a 335.

IMO, you should do mostly exterior...tint, coilovers, M3 trunk lip, aftermarket rims or 189s, underspoiler kit.

There are so many reasons to get a 328i over a 335i, so don't even start with the "you should have gotten a 335." OP knows why he got a 328i over a 335i.

Some reasons:
1) No HPFP problems
2) Reliable
3) Lower cost by about $5k
4) Higher MPG
5) lower insurance
6)..............

Edit: Just saw you have a 328xi yourself, so why are you telling the guy he should have gotten a 355i?????

All he wants is modding recommendations.

I would look into an aftermarket intake - that with the exhaust will get you more bang for the buck.

Exactly the reason I stayed away from a 335i. Could have gotten one, but opted for the "lower-end" engine. I'm very happy with 230HP.

Congrats on the new car. There are a ton of options out there but I'd suggest looking at Avant Garde or VMR wheels to start.

These are the Avant Garde M310s in 19":



For a drop, I'd suggest a spring upgrade like the H&R Sports or a spring and shock replacement like the Koni FSD/Eibach Pro Kit or H&R Cup Kit.

For the headlights, you can do a set of OE xenons if you can find them cheap or a set of aftermarket Projector90 headlights.

What is with everyone hating on the 328's? You should have gotten a 335 is what everyone says, so why not tell 335 owners they should have gotten an m3(assuming they were going to mod it)? Food for thought. Congrats by the way on the purchase, I just got the tuning bug for my 328i. GL

Before you get your pants all wound up (may be too late), I was actually responding to the guy that told him to go with an aftermarket exhaust so that it "sounds" like a real BMW.

I am more than happy with the power on my 328xi which is why I chose not to spend more money on a 335 but to spend a grand or more on an aftermarket exhaust just for the sound would be money not well spent imo, but again...that's just me.

It does snow and get cold in NC, so for right now I would put decent winter tires on the stock rims. Since you don't have the sport package, I would try to replicate that first with 17 or 18 inch rims and appropriate summer tires (no runflats). Next spring go for the the suspension, rim, and tire upgrade similar to what comes on a sport package. The BMS tuner would be great for improving throttle response and a nice set of Xenon lights would be a plus. A nice exhaust system would be a great improvement as well.

Hey there, welcome to the forums.
Good choice on the 189 style rims. Great style. What I have on mine right now. I think you will need 15mm spacers to have the rears fit properly.
Suspensions I don't have much experience with.

In my opinion the most cost effective mods for a 328 are cosmetic.
I would recommend a CSL style trunk, and fitting LCI tail lights. A roof spoiler might also be a very inexpensive mod if you are interested.

I don't plan on getting winter tires here in Raleigh. Except for the past few days, it rarely gets THAT cold, and I can't see spending money on tires when I don't think I really need to.

Absolutely, you can even do 20" but I would stick with 19s.
