I've been having a major issue with this emulator... perhaps you can offer some advice?


to summarize the problem, my camera only engages on the first shift into reverse. every subsequent shift brings up the pdc/camera screen, but the camera is blanked out. It is not a video feed/power problem, but rather the camera being disabled. If it was a dead feed, brightness/contrast controls would remain enabled, and there would be a black video box.

The CIC variables i have coded are:

macro_pdc aktiv
macro_rearview aktiv
rvc_cic wert_23
macro_l6_parkmenu aktiv


to troubleshoot, i have tried the following:

1) tried removing the navi/voice emulator to rule that out (since my CIC is a retrofit)
2) tried adding 3AG
3) tried adding 507
4) tried coding defaults to CIC to start from scratch (with and without the added VOs)
5) tried exchanging the emulator for another one in case it was faulty

No idea what to try now...

Where is the camera getting power from?

The problem was the emulator. It needs pdc. Camera is getting power from a fuse that is only on with ignition

No. Ignition has to be on

Unless it was your specific emulator, PDC isn't required. There's another thread on E90 Post that discusses this in further detail.

the thread is over a year old. it was the emulator's design. it did not emulate pdc properly.

i wasn't the only one with the problem.

switched emulator brand and everything worked fine

I don't have the camera installed, but I've coded others for this. With and without PDC.

Yes! I have the same problem! What brand did you wind up going with? It's driving me nuts!!

Carsystems from Ukraine. Payment via Western Union. It's the same one the sponsors use, except like 1/3rd the price and better support

Did you get the extended BMW Exx CIC camera emulator? It's odd, they don't have prices on their site... How did you go about ordering?

I wonder if that will work on a 6mt with no PDC. The sponser units seem pretty easy to install, but very $$$$

the sponsor unit is the same exact one. they buy emulators from carsystems and use chinese cameras, then inflate the price.

yes, i have the extended version with the active parking lines and CIC emulator built in.

it was somewhere around $230-250 if i remember correctly, but I also have a retrofitted CIC. Since it can emulate both navigation and backup cam, it was worth it for me.

This was like 2 years ago so there might be something better now, but this 100% works.
