Where to source new discs & pads

Hi I was hoping I could get some advice on where to buy either genuine BMW parts or very good quality front discs & pads for my E92 335d.

Just had the pleasure of a quote from my main dealer (Bavarian Belfast) who are looking £508 for this job. Also another £175 to replace 'split bump stops' on the rear!

I'm thinking by hopefully sourcing the parts and using an indie garage I can save myself some money (which is particularly tight with imminent baby arrival).

Thanks in advance for any help

Bmmini parts for oem discs and then ebc yellowstuff/redstuff pads could be an option.

Or eurocarparts and get the textar pads as they are the brand that make bmw pads if I remember correctly.

Euro car parts for Pagid discs and pads. Pagid make the OEM items.

Look for a ECP offer as they always seem to be on.

Last year with 30% off discs, pads and sensors all round cost £300. You'd need to fit them yourself or get a little garage and they'll take 1.5/2 hours labour for all 4 corners.

Just take it to a good indie. Doing this will generate most of the savings for zero hassle.

By all means go down the Eurocarparts route but just look at the threads on here from people who have discovered that "there appears to be more than one part listed". Factor in the joys of Parcelforce and then imagine the garage telling you that there is a problem with the part. Finally consider what happens when they "warp" after 3 months and the garage tell you it was probably a defective part.

My philosophy is "no pain, no pain" so I'd just go down the easy route and get most of the savings.

If your gonna go to a garage to get em fit anyway then id say let them get the parts as they normally get trade discount on parts anyway.

If you want OEM then use Harry Fairbairn BMW, you get 15% discount. I've used them a couple of times and they've been cheaper than Bmmini...

http://www.bmwforums.info/harry-fairbairn-bmw/

I used Euro Car Parts for discs and pads due to the discount at the time.

This.

I would either go for genuine BMW ones so you have the 2 year no hassle warranty, or just take it to a good independent. I've been through so many discs from Eurocarparts (Pagid, then replaced with Bosch) and had horrible hot judder for months on both pairs of discs, until i finally paid out for the Genuine BMW items and the judder was gone!

Had i just take it to a good independent, i wouldn't have had to faff around with sending the old items back, and paying for a bunch of money to have garages diagnose bad discs so i could get my money back from ECP etc. Big discs like those on the 335 show up the tiniest imperfection in manufacturing or tolerances, so the discs have to be 100% quality. On a 320 you probably would never notice manufacturing faults or discs not mounted on the hub properly because they aren't big enough and probably will never get hot enough to show them up, as the average 320 driver doesn't brake down from high speeds often enough.

I can get you 30% off RRP for EBC yellowstuff pads. I've done this for over 10 people on this forum. There's a thread buried in the classifieds somewhere.

I was quoted £450 on Friday for discs & pads for my 335d @ 46k. It seemed a bit steep and I could do the work myself but, unless there's a performance benefit from going non-OEM, I think I'd prefer to have the peace of mind of a dealer warranty.

That said, ECP does have attactive pricing for discs and pads - £45 for two discs and £57 for a set of Pagid pads.

I had a card through from BMW this week - £209 for oil and microfilter service; £199 for front pads; £169 for rear pads for all 3 series, inc. parts, labour, VAT...

Yes had noticed that deal on ECP - i'm outside of warranty anyhow. Have found an indie bmw specialist and just going to compare part prices with their trade discount

Just got oem discs from bmminiparts (worked out around 50 quid cheaper than harry fairbairns). And got the ebc yellowstuff pads from the group buy myself. Just waiting on a slow response from ******** to see if I can get new wheels while I have them off to do the brakes.

New wheels on way!! :-D got a long list of jobs for next week. Brake discs and pads. Wheels and new tyres. Fit new blower for ac/heating (isnt the resistor pack thats faulty unfortunately). Get a spray job done on the front bumper from where a cat headbutt my bumper (thats what it must of wanted to do in my eyes otherwise there would be no other reason for it to jump in front of me whilst I was driving at 50mph). Heres fingers crossed for some mild weather.

I just asked BMW for 10% off discs and pads and they obliged no questions asked. If not, just order from Cotswold BMW or another dealer who give 10-15% for forum members. I paid £360 for Genuine BMW front discs and pads, plus £50 labour at a BMW specialist.

You can get your brakes done by an indy, won't affect your service history as it's not a serviceable item.

If you want EBC pads then let me know, i can get 30% off RRP.

In order to maintain the BMWSH...what work would you need done at BMW which comes up on the iDrive?

I think its everything that comes up, apart from MOT and brakes. BMW like you to think that brakes are a serviceable item.

Sigh, the things they do for profit these days
