$300 US for shipping aint shabby i got quoted $500, If they were nice seeing as though each rim gets its own box, Invoice each rim individually you wouldn't pay import duties.

I purchased my rims from JLEVISW.com in the US. I think freight was US$200 or worst case US$250. Invoicing each rim individually is not going to save you from paying GST as this is calculated on the shipment value. However if your supplier is willing to send the goods with a lower invoice value like US$400, then you will avoid the GST. The only negative to this is if the goods are damaged in transit and need to claim on the shippers insurance then the most you will get back is US$400.

you better source tyres locally as there is a requirement to have ADR standard for roadworthy purpose.

has anyone bought any geniune OEM wheels from US? if so, where did you get it?

thanks!

i wanna get a set of 19Y spoke M staggered wheels for our X3, got a quote - it costs almost $4000 just for the set of wheels itself. what a bloody ripped off!!

our exchange rate is crap at the moment, probably not worth buying anything now.

i purchased a set of 19in BBS CH w/ ContiSport 3 from www.tirerack.com last year. The airfreight was an unbelievable $200....

Everything arrived in perfect condition, not a mark

Took about 5 days to arrive and another 5 in customs to pay the ~$1200 in duties.

If only the dollar was still ~90cents, I'd have LM-R's on this new one...

sorry for digging up this old thread, i'm thinking to import a set of wheels from US, the owner is asking for $900USD. How does the custom duty and GST work? I read the custom website, it says if the goods valued less than $1000, it does not attract any duties or taxes.

As for custom duty, if the goods are imported from US, it'll be exempted from it due to our trade agreement?!? I thought it is about 5% of the value of the goods.

Got a quoted from FedFex, they are charging $590USD to import a set of wheels, each weighs about 30lbs. Does it sound reasonable?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Leon

Get them to send via USPS (US Postal Service).

Takes about the same time as Fedex but you don't get slugged with duties, GST etc. You also get a tracking number.

I've done this with my intake, tune and other stuff and it's always been without issue.

Thanks Wopalx. I'll try to get a quote from USPS, do they offer insurance in the event the goods are lost in transit?

similar to the other suggestions -- what i planned to do was to have the shipper send separately to different addresses and addressee (cousin, friend, officemate, etc.). ended up having 3 sent separately, 1 bringing it over myself (have extra baggage allowance). didn't pay anything apart from shipping.

I'm looking to buy some linea corse rims from US. They use BAX Global.

Has everyone been hit with BS customs and brokerage fees (exluding duty)?

I don't understand because I have imported a front bumper lip (massive box) and it turned up at my door with no hidden costs or suprises. Then I hear of people going to pick up their wheels and having to pay an extra $200 in BS fees... what's the difference, is it because they are heavy and in 4 boxes??

The fees are charged based on the value you are importing. If the invoiced value is over A$1000 then you will pay GST. There are customs fees and bits and pieces which add up to about A$90 odd dollars. Sometimes the customs fees and extras are paid for by the sender. It depends on the codes they use when the sender fills in the shipping paper work. Sometimes the people quoting the more expensive freight charges are actually quoting you a price based on them picking up these charges.

Why Pay Bullshit Fees

Just Get The Store To Write That They Are Used Or Put The Price Down Under 1000usd Should Have No Fees, I Had No Probs They Put Down Used When Everything Was New Tyres & Rims.
F..k Customs.
