If your going for an active 3D set have a good test of it first.
I bought a 59 inch Samsung last year tried it out a few times for relatively short periods in John Lewis and Currys and loved it. Set it up at home and watching anything over 10 mins of 3D footage gives me a right old headache and ive not watched anything more than that since I've had it. I've since tried one of the LG passive 3D sets and don't seem to suffer with any issues watching 3D footage. Another thing I've noticed with my Samsung you need the room to be very dark to get the best watching 3D. |

Agree that the SD picture is so good on these sets, compared to my other cheaper LCDs in the house the difference is massive.
Haven't actually tried a BLuray in it yet, must get that one sorted. |

Believe it or not Jon I have a BLuray player but so far have only played DVDs in it. Only have it a few weeks so thats my excuse.
Bought at same time as the TV, its a Samsung 3D Bluray Surround Sound kit, great addition to the TV. |

The difference between SD and HD on any given TV should be night and day regardless of the TV quality. The better quality of the SD picture due to a better quality TV should also apply the same to the HD picture. There is also alot of quality difference in the dynamic range and contrast ratio. Black is very often grey on cheaper TV's (technika) and this will ruin the depth of a 3D blu-ray movie. The comparison should be made SD vs SD and HD vs HD on different TV's. In all seriousness if you cant tell the difference there is something wrong with the set up (TV too big, Sitting too close, dodgey cables etc...) or a trip to the opticians is in order. Just a fact for you SD has 442,368 (0.4mp) pixels and HD has 2,073,600 (2.073mp) pixels and is much more vibrant. Seeing as the human eye is said to see in the equivalent of 500+mp (although cant really be measured like that as it is not a camera) it is obvious to me that you should be able to clearly see the difference Back to the point... This is the best TV for £1000 by far IMO: Awsome TV Here |

We've found sony's to be the worst in terms of longevity. We bought a 50" Samsung plasma and a Sony one too. The Sony one has been replaced twice under warranty..where as the Samsung is still going strong. That was 5-6 years ago. We still have the Samsung - the sony was sold as spares on eBay!
Now that I'm in my own home - I too will needs a nice big tv - but I don't think I'll be going for anything too fancy. Samsung are cheap but certainly not tatty. Yoi'll also find that allot of the big manufacturers share the same platform in terms of chip board and components. |

Samsung FTW. Really good value.
Another kick for Sony while it is down is the standard speakers are allways shockingly bad. Although They probably assume people who spend that much on a TV will have a seperate speaker system set up. |

Paid just over £2k for it (RRP was about £2,800 ) Also - go for an Onkyo amp as as mentioned, we only listen to our tv through it (as the TV doesn't have speakers )
