N52 325i over heating?

Last night i went for a drive in my N52 engined 325i and as i was cruising along the motorway a warning popped up on the idrive saying the engine was over heating. Long story short, got the aa out who said its most likely the water pump as there was plenty of coolant and the radiator fan was still working.. Is this a common fault or could it be anything else?

Awesome, i'll have a little search and see what i can find out. In the meantime does anyone have a rough price for the replacement of the water pump in the uk?

it's not bad if you DIY - I don't know how part prices in the UK are, but it's around $400 for a new pump kit here.

If you have to pay labor, well it's going to be a lot more obviously.

Definitely not simple IMO - especially without a lift. The waterpump hoses tend to get stuck on and are a pain in the butt to take off. 4-5 hours start to finish was my experience. Would save at least a few hundred of dollars though.

I'm about to get my waterpump replaced a 2nd time as preventative measure because I'm high mileage - the quote I got from my local shop is $250 for the labor. I would guess a dealership would be 2x or 3x. I ordered the waterpump and thermostat for about $350 online.

I don't have a lift, I honestly didn't think it was that hard.. I've done worse jobs before, and I did mine on an xi which is much more complicated. the RWD should be a breeze in comparison. The part I hated the most was actually all the stupid plastic covers you have to take off, which isn't even that hard, it's just time consuming and annoying.

the dealer that fixed a steering column issue was $185/hr for labor, I do OK for myself but my time is definitely not worth that much.

I had mine replaced along with the thermostat for £150 labour. The parts were about £280.
