'unfriend' on Facebook

...if I were to do this what happens at the other end??

For example, I've got various people on my Facebook page (from years ago), that I'd rather get rid of. If I 'unfriend' them do they get a message to say it's happened, is anything logged on the home-page (like it is when you 'friend' someone)??

Whilst I don't really want them on there any more I don't want to look like a tw@t.

Any thoughts??

They will never know until they realize they haven't seen any updates from you in a while, they search for you and find out you un-friended them. I just cleaned up my list a few days ago, kicked a bunch to the curb!

Looking at your Facebook you hardly used it. Unless you have a "new" one etc

Mate, I signed up years ago, within about a week I was hunted down by a number of ex's (obviously left a lasting memory - or perhaps my surname is very noticable!!), so closed my account. A couple of months ago a few business connections were talking about their presence on there so thought I'd reactivate my account. After 3 years off it I half hoped my account would be cleared and I'd start again - no such luck.

Would prefer, now I'm a bit more clued up, to just have close mates & work contacts on there - not a bunch of ex's!!!

So, like the way they wouldn't notice, but if they track me down again and it says 'unfriended' seems a bit harsh. Don't know why I care really - probably because some still live locally and I occassionally bump into them - don't mind saying hello from afar but can't be arsed getting life-updates from them!!

Get them to fuck. They get no message but even they did who gives a toss.

My wires family were giving me hassle because I ignore them on Facebook. I told them it was because I use it for work only.

Didn't mean to sound cocky (or a bit of a cock), it's quite a small community where I live, so not much happens without folk knowing about it. So, on Facebook, you friend one person and loads of people notice. Not just ex's, loads of people I can't be arsed with, just want to clean it up really without offending anyone. Point taken though

You and me both. I remember years ago someone signing me up saying 'this is brilliant, try it!' I logged in, had a look round and then cancelled my account.

Hey people from years ago! There's probably a reason why we didn't stay in touch!

Nothing happens and chances are, if they treat Facebook like Pokemon (and have collected 100s of friends) then they'll never notice (or will take ages too).

There are settings in Facebook where you can block certain people and hide yourself from public searches (or there were).

Fucks me off when people add you and then put you on a limited profile. They get unfriended pretty quick.

I am not sure how many geeks are here, but here is a way if you are interested to know how many people got you off from their list.
