What to pay for truck with blown motor

I have to oppurinity to buy an 01 ranger v6 with a possibly spent motor. It's from a friend of a friend and I don't want to take advantage of him. I own a shop so it won't cost me any labor and I need a beater truck. What would be a fair offer assuming bad motor. Im thinking $300-500?

before I saw your offer, I was thinking $800.

not sure if I shot a little too high or you're just low balling him HAHA !!!!

if you can get it for $500 and put a nice engine in it for another 400-500, you have yourself a nice daily....

Assuming that the truck doesn't really need anything more than a motor and isn't something you're just going to flip to make a buck (not that there is anything wrong with that) the $500 is probably a fair price. If you were going to flip it, maybe give the guy a little more given he's a friend of a friend.

What condition is the interior and chassis in? Miles on the chassis? I wouldn't drop more than $600/$700 with everything in good shape. If it needs more TLC and in rough shape, no more than $400.

Include a handy and he may drop the price a couple extra bucks if its worth the effort.

I can't remember the condition. He's gonna try to get it towed in so we can see if we can fix it for him.

I'll send him your way for the handy.

$500 tops, throw in $100 extra if the interior and body are in really good shape. 01 Ranger motor will run you $700-$900 from a salvage yard.

He told me he thinks it work $2000 in current shape... He's towing it in Friday for us to diagnose. He may be in for a hard reality.

Some people have a hard time distinguishing between sentimental value and actual value. Blown motor = parts car = $300 if sold to a scrapyard or $500 to a private party.
