Just a word of advice, be careful on wrenching down on the bolts, they can easily snap off. I recommend a torque wrench. If anyone has the ft lbs required please post them up as I dont have the helms manual for this car.

Last but not least, if you guys have the means, maybe the steering rack bolts are loose, especially for those people that installed downpipes.

That is the only thing I can think of if the top strut perches are not shifting.

Also if you have aftermarket downpipes make sure they are not touching the sub frame.

I also have a noise similar to this that happens first thing in the morning when I back out with the wheel turned. This may sound really weird, but when I turn my interior heating fan off I can't hear it anymore.

Same thing going down my hill (180 degree switchbacks). It will make the noise while turning but then stop when I turn off the fan.

Pulled them off... Cleaned them up and still have the noise. I am anxious to hear R.G. Results from the dealer.

Well it's about 50 degrees here in Vegas and they haven't been able to recreate the noise
Spoke to the SA said the steering column and coupler are going to be lubed and they're going to keep it overnight again see if its cold enough tomorrow morning to make the noise

Ill be sure to keep you guys in the loop as I get more info

I too get a weird soft waling kind of sound at very cold startups when turning the steering wheel...not like the video though. Disappears above 40 degrees or when the car warms up.

Spoke to my SA again
Car still not ready but asked her to tell me again what was done to the steering column. Basically all they did was grease the steering shaft and they haven't been able to recreate the noise but its been warm here. If I find anything else out ill update

Even though it warmed up here...my car is doing it nearly all the time. Maybe just a coincidence, but I did remove the strut brace and clean it and re-install.

I may pull it off again on Saturday and still if it makes that noise without the brace at all...that will help me narrow it down.

Does anyone know which side brace goes on top on the cowl portion...I can also make sure I put them back on correctly.

IIRC the passenger side goes on top

You don't have the torque spec to those bolts do you? I still think the brace may be the issue, I just don't see how much tighter I can actually go.

When I pulled the braces, the one had some paint coming off the ends...so I guess there must have been some shifting around.

I think it's a virus for with N54.

I did a downpipe job at the local workshop and after driving the car I noticed a weird noise along with a small vibration only when turning the wheels left.

Everything was tightened up throughly but we couldn't find what's wrong.

I you get up with a solution please chime in.

I figured it out... Both struts mounts rubber are torn in a circle. The noise came from the rubber rubbing together as the steering shifted the suspension. During extreme cold the rubber was harder so it was noticed more.

My question now, is it safe to drive still?

Here are some pics for good measure...I guess the sound was traveling through the strut tower brace, when I took those off, it did sound like it was coming from the top of the struts.

That dies look like a rubber insulator for the strut spring.....how did it tear?

Replacing the top mounts of the struts fixed the problem. I did replace the struts and shocks at the same time. Feels and sounds good now.
