Hi, I purchased a 335i 3 weeks ago and I was wondering if a turbo timer would be a good investment, if so is there a certain brand I should look into or just certain characteristics.

Wow turbo timer is so ancient. Not a good buy. Get a Cobb tune and call it a day as it is the easiest to install

Wrong category all around for that. If a turbo required a timer, wouldnt every turbo car, truck, suv on the market come with one stock if it helped warranty last longer? The ways to cook oil in a turbo are slim, you would have to drive redline full boost till the oil was super hot in the system, as in all the oil. Then shut the car off without actually stopping. This may, MAY cause an issue. Other than that its like ricer math, the stickers dont add power.

I'm not looking to rice it up. I'm mostly trying to prevent possible turbo problems down then road and couldn't find much on it. But thanks for your input.

No need for a turbo timer. I'd get a front mount intercooler in your case and an oil cooler if you dot have it already.

As stated above, though no one correctly explained why, 335i does not need a turbo timer. The DME will keep the coolant flowing even after you turn off your car. Listen for the water pump. Even still, I would do a cool down drive regardless.

Turbo timer is old school tech, you do not need that for a BMW.

Edit: Since our BMWs have electric pumps, the DME keeps the pump running until temps are lowered, then the DME sleeps.

You do not need a turbo timer as the car automatically runs coolant through the turbo's when you turn the car off.

The water pump circulates coolant through everything, not just the turbos. The REST button on the climate control will also circulate coolant through the heater core after shutdown to keep the passengers warm for up to 15 minutes.

The turbo charger thrust bearing relies on "lubrication" NOT coolant.....and their is a certain tolerance of shaft play which is very miniscule why? Because that is where the oil lubricates the bearing which floats on oil NOT coolant. Note the stock turbochargers has thrust bearing not a ball bearing turbo.

So when you shut off the engine, obviously you shut off the oil supply which comes from the oil pump.auxillary pump, back in the day the cars that did have after run cooling systems were only 2 Audi inline 5 cylinder turbo's and Porsche 944 turbo's

Have never heard the water oumo come in. Yes you can run the heat that is that activied hrs indide the car oxtuate residual heat after the engine is shut off, it draws heat from the HEATER CORE which will draw heat to the cabin for a few minutes, this feature was was introduced in the E36 models.
