Good man Boris (for you Londoners)
At least hes kept to his election pledge!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7494495.stm Not that I ever would drive up there, but my non ED 335i (228g CO2) probably increased in value over the last few hours (only to drop again with the gloom, credit cruch and cost of fuel!) Cheers PS Sorry if this is old news - Viv if it is, please delete |

Absolutely brilliant. Now all we need is for someone to take a class action against the oil companies and their monopolies and for that matter the bloody government for taxing us god knows how many times on the purchase of fuel - mother funsters!!!!

In a climate of tax, price rise, tax, scam (as in traffic cameras), surcharges and stealth taxes, it's refreshing to see a pledge that's actually been made good on and a sensible if common sense decision being made!

Boris is the Top London Dude!
Finally someone is beginning to see sense regards this Carbon Con Job that we are all being brainwashed with! Below is a very interesting letter that appeared in the Sunday Times on June 8th 2008. CLIMATE-CHANGE SCAREMONGERS While there is no excuse for excessive waste and pollution, the average person going about their daily business has a far smaller impact on CO2 emissions than Julian Taylor suggests (Letters, last week). Carbon dioxide is a benign gas that constitutes only 0.04% of the atmosphere (400 parts per million). Man is responsible for 4% of this tiny total – nature the rest. The UK is responsible for about 2% of world CO2 emissions; so, as an example, British flying accounts for some 6% of 2% of 4% of 0.04%. That’s a lot of noughts, and the tiny end result is reduced by another huge factor because the main greenhouse gas – water vapour – has 30 times the impact of other greenhouse gases (such as methane). In total, worldwide man-made CO2 emissions constitute some 0.15% of all greenhouse gases. The man-made climate-change industry has been the product of a perfect storm, whereby interesting but mostly highly theoretical research by climate experts has combined with the politically inspired and nonscientific bureaucratic “summarisers” on the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). They have deliberately erased Earth’s past warming episodes in order to end up with a scaremongering result that bears limited relationship to the scientific information they were presented with by the various IPCC working groups. The climate emperor has no clothes and the depressing reality of “politics, bandwagons and taxes” is far closer to the truth than an imminent global catastrophe. Energy security and overpopulation are the much more serious concerns. Tony Brown, Teignmouth, Devon

Bit of a rant there Mr LRS, but I agree with all that. I still say that in a hundred years time school children will be laughing at "our" stupidity - beleive all the media crap.
Does anyone have a name for that bit of research/theory that shows that it's the Earth's temperature rising that causes CO2 to un-dissolve from the oceans, and that we're simply coming out of an ice-age? BTW - how on earth are we going to reduce our emissions by 50% or whatever they agreed yesterday?

LRS - That letter lays out the CO2 blunder for all to see. The changes being forced upon us are on the back of conjecture and hypothesis and 50% or redcution targets should be stopped until we have conclusive proof!!

I agree. We should not do anything until the polar icecaps have melted and only then if we are being over run by polar bears.

I know I go on a bit, but I hate the thought of governments taking us for gullible mugs.
Carbon Reduction PLC, is now a very big business, providing many people with a very lucrative living. It is also providing the government with a very easy, non-controversial means of raising tax revenue. After all, no one wants to be seen as being anti-green. Especially, anyone in the media eye. It provides the perfect excuse for the government to: • Stop repairing roads (Badly maintained roads encourage people to drive less, thus, reducing our carbon footprint • Maintain the percentage level of duty on fuel (Yet again, people drive less, thus reducing our carbon footprint) Although this one could backfire on the government soon due to lost revenues based on lower fuel sales • Make you purchase HIP Home Information Packs detailing the energy efficiency of your house (More energy efficient, less carbon for the UK figures) It all adds up to a very clever way to tax us poor powerless subjects.

You really think taxing a small % of the UK car driving public off the road is going to help stop natural post Ice age Global warming? You feel that nations such as India, China and America who dwarf our small and poxy CO2 output, and who are not particularly interested in such debilitating and unpopular stances, actually give a toss? LRS's 3 bullet points (of several), are really on the Money when it comes to the 'Green' stance around Global Warming. You can also add that making driving a real pain will possibly give an answer to the failed policies around getting us all on buses and trains. Every one of us here continues to pay the rising taxes across the board. None of us here have moved to Public transport, so our emissions are the same! Why do people shy away if it means hat much? Moreover, why aren't you driving a Prius or 1 litre 70 MPG car? I'm all for waste efficiency and recycling etc, but focussing on the Motor car is a mealy mouthed easy picking for those lacking in real understanding of the problem and any long term strategy and who only think of their own short term gain. i.e staying in Power.
